More About Coach Roy

I have been coached by some of the UK and Europes best coaches throughout my career who have taught me a lot about the game from different viewpoints and perspectives. It has helped me develop as a player and coach to see how the game is played in different parts of the world.

I have played under coaches from Portugal, Spain, Scotland, Ireland, USA, and England. Each country has a specific style of play which has broadened my knowledge of the game, in turn, helping my clients get the best experience of the global game that is soccer.

A session with me will be technical and focused on improving the athlete's ability, knowledge, and awareness of the game while having fun.

Sessions are tailored to meet the needs of the athlete and position focused to help the athlete learn the way a player in that position plays the game. A session for a midfielder will vary to that of a striker, goalkeeper or defender as each position has different traits that need to be focused on.

The fundamentals of the game will be taught through technical drills that will mimic game-like scenarios to give the athlete the best opportunity to bring the work they do on the practice field into games. Repetition in soccer helps you gain more confidence and be more comfortable when you have to do it on the field because your body remembers the scenario.

I always focus practice on enjoying the game, the game is meant to be fun and played with a smile. This is very important for me and the athlete. Although drills and exercises will be technical they will always be fun, not boring or a slow process. Everything is organized and at the pace of the athlete so they can learn, have fun and be comfortable.

I will always allow the athlete to choose something they would like to work on in each session and advise them to pick one area each week that they would like to improve. I believe it is important for the athlete to feel like they are working with you and not for you as it builds a better bond and relationship of trust between coach and athlete. Also, this gives the athlete confidence.

Sessions will end with a Q&A about what we did in the session, and what will be done the week after so they athlete has all week or the time in between sessions to practice or prepare. It's fun homework.

I welcome parent involvement at all times during sessions.
