More About Coach Reed

I have coached kids throughout my high school and college careers. In high school, I mainly conducted private lessons with goalies in middle school on a weekly basis giving them interpersonal, 1v1 training. In college, I volunteered for four years with the Young Quakers Community Athletics program coaching elementary and middle school boys in the West Philadelphia area. Also in college, through my affiliation with the UPenn lacrosse team, I coached middle school and high school students at various clinics throughout my four years with the program. I do not have any industry certifications.

I was a four-year starting goalie for the University of Pennsylvania helping to secure an Ivy Championship and NCAA Quarterfinal appearance. Below are some of my accolades:
2019: Third-Team USILA All-American
2019: First-Team All-Ivy
2019: Honorable Mention ECAC All-Star
2019: Ivy League Tournament Most Outstanding Player
2019: Ivy League Player of the Week (4/1)
2019: USILA National Team of the Week (4/1)
2019: Academic All-Ivy
2019: Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Co-Performer of the Year
2018: Ivy League Player of the Week (3/19)
2017: Ivy League Tournament All-Tournament Team
2017: Ivy League Player of the Week (2/27)
2016: Co-Ivy League Rookie of the Year
2016: Second-team All-Ivy
2016: Ivy League Player of the Week (3/28)
2016: Four-time Ivy League Rookie of the Week (4/25, 3/28, 3/7, 2/22)
I also ended my career with the most minutes played in UPenn history and the second most in all-time saves (647). These accolades and achievements led to my being taken by the Premier Lacrosse League as a free agent and where I hopefully plan on playing in the 2021 season.

In terms of what I do in a given session and what I incorporate in my coaching strategy is to give the goalie as many shots as possible, each day focusing on different shooting situations. That is the basis of a goalie's play and where they can find a comfortable form (something that I can help them work towards). I also like to incorporate some type of clearing drill during these shooting scenarios. Supplementary work includes three major things: stretching / flexibility, agility (jump rope / ladder), and hand eye (juggling / wall ball drills). I like to incorporate drills that hit on these three main pillars throughout the session. Ultimately, I try to find a certain routine that fits the player and adjust as I go.
