More About Coach Ralph

I have coached athletes in baseball from little league to high school, and football and track and field from youth to the professional level. I was a college track coach for 13 years and have coached at every collegiate level. Most recently I was head coach at CSU Eastbay, and assistant head track and field coach at Morgan State University. I hold an IAAF elite coaching certification in sprints and hurdles and am also a certified USATF Instructor trainer with certifications in sprints, hurdles and relays, distance and endurance events, and horizontal jumps. I have coached over 15 athletes to national championships, 1 defensive back on the Ohio State national championship football team in 2004, and coached 7 Olympic runners. I have a masters degree from The Ohio State University in Physical education, and served for four years as the USA track and field Pacific Association Men's open outdoor track and field chair.

As a college student athlete at Morgan State University, I competed in both football and track and field. While at Morgan I was a four time MEAC and IC4A champion in the 200 meters and still hold the indoor 200 meter stadium record at Cornell University that I set back in 1998. I achieved NCAA division I All-American status in the 200 meters. Prior to Morgan State I attended NJCAA Central Arizona College where I helped lead my team to a national championship. After 2 years I transferred to Morgan State University. In football I am a National Semi pro football hall of fame inductee and high school hall of fame inductee.In high school I was the Arizona state champion in the long jump and triple Jump.

The first session is an assessment using the functional movement screen. I will assess posture, mobility, stability, flexibility and strength to see if I notice any deficiencies in these areas. I will video some of the test and conclude with a video analysis. I will meet with my client and parent to asses the video and come up with an individualized plan specific to that athlete.

Session 2 will usually begin with some mental imagery and visualization followed by a dynamic warm-up. After the warm-up we will go through a series of drills working on form, posture, rhythm, and balance, and will progress to some agility and mobility work using cones, dots, hurdles, and or ladders if necessary.

Depending on what event or sport the athlete is training for there will be a daily theme, or weakness focus that we will be working to improve every practice, so after the warm-up we will begin doing individualized workout that is based on the individuals needs to address the areas of weakness that we look to improve.

All sessions require 48 hour cancellation notice or the client will forfeit the cost of the session.
