More About Coach Pedro

Coach Baca has coached amateur boxing as head coach and trainer for the last 14 years at local, regional, and national levels with USA Boxing. He has presented boxing and conditioning clinics in and out of state. Coach Baca has trained and worked with athletes at two Olympic training centers Squaw Valley Calif. and Colorado Springs, Colo. He trained first responders (Police, Firefighters) in Colo., N.M. for annual fund raising events. He studied group training and nutrition at the University of New Mexico Valencia. Coach Baca enjoys working with groups and individuals ranging from 10 years of age on up. " I work with active competitive athletes as well as persons seeking to just enjoy the experience of the striking game; along with conditioning and skill improvement." certified coach with USA Boxing.

Coach Baca was coached and trained by Olympic head coach and professional world champion coach Bobby Lewis. Who trained George Foreman to an Olympic Gold Medal. He trained Ron Lyle and heavyweight World Champion Michael Dokes, as well as team mate and World Champion " Lightning" Lonnie Smith Sr. among many other champions and top contenders in the pro and amateur ranks. Coach Baca also worked with world champion fighters on many occasions like Wilfredo Gomez from San Juan Puerto Rico and Azuma Nelson from Ghana Africa in preparation for world title fights. He also trained with top coaches and fighters from Spain and Australia ie. Jeff Malcomb Sr.
" I was Colorado state amateur boxing champion for six years. Southwest regional boxing champion which included Colorado, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, Oklahoma, and Western Texas four times, and fourth and third in the Nation 1981-1982
I received many outstanding fighter awards in tournaments and smokers throughout my amateur career which began when I was eight years old."

I am not a replacement coach, I assist and consult with either coaches and fighters together or individually; to identify opportunities and work with athletes and coaches to achieve specific goals. My sessions are flexible and fluid to accommodate the very beginning athlete who wants the experience to the athlete with many years under their belt. Video analysis is often incorporated. The sessions are designed with your goals in mind, such as focusing on certain areas to improve upon. That can be anything from defense, offense, increasing combination volume to working on increasing speed or working on strategy and being able to adjust according to opponent recognition. It can also be for conditioning purposes while refreshing or acquiring new skills.
First I do an assessment of a persons previous experience and athletic history so I can adjust a workout that will complement that experience. A typical session will consist of warm up exercise which will include some isometric stretching and exercise. This is usually followed by mirror and shadow work (depending on facilities) focused on balance and technique. We will then move to mitt work giving the trainee a sense of movement, rhythm and timing along with a touch of boxing flavor. Then bag work ( heavy bag, slipping bag, double end bag and speed bag) with emphasis on proper usage of the apparatus such as striking technique, range recognition and movement . Throughout the session I will continuously give examples both physical and verbal on how to execute punch combinations with foot placement and movement. After the bag work on to cardio conditioning and core exercise. this period usually consists of mitt and bag drills followed by jump rope and more iso. exercise.
The sessions usually last around an hour and a half to two and a half hours. I increase certain segments and times in specific areas to meet the goals of who I'm working with. This may include working on technique, speed, agility, combinations, or physical conditioning. Sparing and contact are often part of a work out but only for those interested in being competitive or required to meet and accomplish specific goals.
I take the time to do the little things too, because everything is important. Things like how to wrap hands to actually protect the hand, how to care for and get the most out of personal equipment and some tricks to do during and out of session time, all designed to increase the next sessions experience. I also emphasize the mental aspect of the sport to enrich and encourage positivity and enthusiasm.

Coach Pedro is incredibly patient, highly knowledgeable, and very encouraging. I could not recommend a better coach. I am new to boxing (but always been a fan) and he is ensuring that I don’t get overwhelmed and too frustrated with myself; Coach Pedro’s emotional intelligence is above and beyond. I’ll be sticking with him for the long haul. Beyond excited for my next sessions!!!

Pedro is awesome, pushes you to work past your obstacles. Thanks for everything! Great teacher, engages very well with each student. I usually need to sleep after class, but very excited to be back ;).

Great boxing coach and helped me with all of the fundamental technique and skills. I would definitely recommend Coach Pedro to anyone else in the Denver area looking to work on their boxing.

Coach Pedro Baca focuses on the technical and foundational sides of boxing, and with that allows for a full experience of boxing that you really won’t get from another coach. Through only two sessions with Coach Pedro Baca, I learned so much, and I hope to continue to learn with him! Plus, he has his own gym (a huge perk)!

Coach Pedro was excellent - incredibly patient and focused but kept things moving quickly so I felt like I was learning a lot! Would definitely recommend him to anyone looking to find a boxing coach!

Very highly recommended. Coach Pedro is great - very technical and guides you to get everything just "click" into place - everyone should get at least some introductory lessons to see if it will be good fit - you won't regret it.

Great coach with amazing attention to detail. Was new to the sport and Coach Pedro could not have provided a better introduction. Looking forward to continue training!

Working with Coach Pedro has been a great experience. He is very professional and has a lot of experience training athletes of all skill levels. He is invested in your growth and takes the time necessary to help you achieve your goals. I'm glad to have started working with him and highly recommend him to anyone who is looking to either get started in the world of boxing or train at a competitive level.

Coach Pedro and I really connected over his technical style and coaching mindset. I felt not only trained, but supported as a person and a rusty athlete. Really looking forward to our next session.

Very passionate and meticulous in his art. Coach Pedro is able to translate his years of experience into very concise and efficient sessions that you walk away from satisfied and eager to learn more. Looking forward to many future sessions.

Amazing coaching from a former fighter, his knowledge and passion for the art of boxing is clear from the outset - lots of fundamental yet technical drill that were both mentally challenging and physically demanding. Highly recommend coach Pedro!

In just a short period of time he has already helped my son with speed, footwork and combinations. His sport is kempo karate, however, I hired Pedro to help with all that encompasses boxing. My son is tearing it up in sparring in his Kempo class only after 3 one hour sessions with Pedro!!! He comes very highly recommended. Book him now!!!

Pedro is very dedicated to boxing and to bringing the best out of people. I have gotten twice my moneys worth out of the sessions I have had with him. I can highly recommend him as a coach.

Baca does things even pros can't do. He knows the ring like most people know the back of their hand.
