More About Coach Patrick
I have coached middle and long distance at all levels of the sport. For Atlanta Track Club I started the youth cross country and track and field team that built a consistent reputation in the south and on a USATF Junior national stage. I have had 3 top 3 finishes at a USATF junior national meet and have had a National champion at the AAU national meet. I also coached a local high school group of boys that in their first year went on to finish 2nd in the state by 2 points and had a 9:22 2 miler and two 1:53 kids. On top of that I was also able to work with the Atlanta Track club in-training participants to help people just beginning or in different phases of their running career get ready for a 5k, 10k, half marathon, or marathon. This program was created to have different levels of difficulty and I was able to work with all the different levels based on their ability.
I am a USATF level 1 certified coach, a USTFCCCA certified coach with additional certifications in training science, energy systems and motor performance abilities in athletes, physiological development through an athletes life cycle, and general endurance training. Along with all of my certifications I have a background in sports physiology and bio-mechanics.
As a professional athlete from 2015-2020 I was able to be a USATF 800 meter finalist, run 1:47.68 in the open 800, run countless relays where I split 1:46, run 4:01 in the mile and 3:40 in the 1500. I was part of the second fastest ever indoor 4x800 where we ran 7:11 at BU. As a collegiate athlete I was an NCAA All-American for Iowa state, before attending Iowa State I ran for Sacred Heart university where I was a 6 time New England champion and am the New England record holder in the outdoor 800.
Before the first session I would talk about the long term goal and plan for the athlete. Every athlete has a different trajectory and different coaching needs. From there I would work with the athlete to build a plan that works off of their current strengths and improves their weaknesses progressively. Workouts would be a stretch/roll out, warm up, drills and strides, workout, cool down and possibly other additives depending on the athlete. I would spend the entire workout talking with the athlete about how they are doing and making sure not only are they working but they are having fun. My goal of coaching will always be long term development and enjoyment of the sport.
