More About Coach Park

In 2013, I began assisting a friend with his startup training company, Grit Basketball, in New Jersey. When I moved to Southern California in 2014, I no longer trained players in the program due to location, but stayed on as a consultant. I traveled back yearly to assist with camps and other training events. In 2017, I began coaching for SoCal Elite Sports in Irvine, CA. I am currently the head coach of the girls 7/8th AAU team for SoCal Elite as well as assist with group training and camps. I am the Head Coach of University High School JV Girls Basketball program in Irvine, CA. In 2020, I launched my own basketball training company, The Coach Park G. I work with boys and girls from 3rd grade to college level. Focus is on ages 10-16. I have all required school district certifications.

I have played the sport of basketball for 30 years. I was a three-sport Varsity athlete in high school. I played basketball in high school, but suffered two injuries in two separate years which essentially ended my shot at collegiate level basketball so instead of attending a junior college to play, I decided to focus on academics. I played intramural college basketball at La Salle University in Philadelphia. I healed, trained, and continued to play in leagues all over the state of NJ and then throughout Orange County, CA. I didn't have a dedicated trainer or knowledgeable parents when it came to getting to the next level so my desire as a trainer is to help kids realize their dreams both from an athletic and personal perspective.

During the first session, I have the athlete run through a series of ball handling and shooting drills to gauge his or her specific skill level. After the drills, I take a few minutes to ask some questions about his or her perceive strengths and weaknesses as well as short-term and long-term goals. Based on his or her responses, I can help formulate a more specific and customized practice plan on how to achieve both short-term and long-term goals. Each session will be the basis for the following sessions so it is critical that the building blocks are established from day one. Practice requires repetition, repetition, and more repetition. I like to incorporate stationary drills for ball handling concepts then take that specific concept and put it into a more movement based drill. From there, we can take that movement and apply it to more in-game scenarios so the movement becomes more applicable and natural. Footwork and shooting are my go-to specializations.
