More About Coach Nicholas

I have 10 plus years training athletes from the Tactical level down to middle school Athletes, with my most recent being a Strength and Conditioning Coach and Instructor at a local private school. At the local private school, I also develop and administer strength and conditioning programs for both soccer and basketball team’s off-season through in-season. I hold the certification as an Army Master Fitness Trainer where I trained both Army and AirForce personnel for their upcoming deployments, physical test, and other unit selection preparations. I have in the last two years began working with youth from 18 years old to 11 years old in strength and conditioning for sports performance. I completed my Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sports Science and am currently pursing my Master of Science in Athletic Development. I am certified by the National Strenght and Conditioning Association (NSCA) as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and by the International Youth Conditioning Association (IYCA) as a Certified Speed and Agility Specialist (CSAS). I also am currently working on my certification in Long Term Athletic Development (LTAD) as a Certified Athletic Development (CAD) specialist through the IYCA. I am CPR and AED certified through the American Red Cross. I am the father of three youth athletes that I train at home as well. I am educated and experienced in training athletes of all ages for any sport or competition that they want to compete in.

I began my athletic experience in high school where I ran cross country and was part or the Reserve Officer Training (ROTC) in which I competed at almost every physical event possible. Once I joined the Army my athletic requirements changed and so did my athletic and strength and condition focus which I constantly honed my entire 21 years in. I served and volunteered for some of the toughest units in the Army which required me to be at the peak of my physical condition and maintain that level, which I did. I passed some of the toughest schools in the Army and that I can attribute that to my physical ability combined with my mental toughness and resilience. I am a lifelong athlete; while active duty I played basketball, soccer, endurance hiking and shooting sports.

A typical session would include a warmup, pre-habilitation, dynamic mobility work and basic movement preparation for whichever sport the athlete may play. This is tailored around the athletes’ requirements and based off an initial assessment. Depending on the session (speed and agility) the athlete would move into a “try-teach-retry” focus where he/she is asked to do a skill to make a baseline, then the skill would be taught from the ground up focusing on technique and would be completed again until the fundamentals are mastered and demonstrated. Once the basic skills are retained, drills are tailored to whatever sport the athlete is playing for application and crossover use on the field, pitch or court. If the athlete is doing strength and conditioning, a linearized personal workout would be followed to meet the athletes’ goals after an assessment is made. After the main part of the session is complete, the athlete would move into a cool down, static stretching, rehabilitation and mobility or flexibility work as needed. There also is prep for the next session so that the athlete knows what to expect.
