More About Coach Mo

I have nurtured students from their first kick, to their first competition, on to their National title. I have created martial arts programs in countries across the world - bringing tenants of self-respect, confidence, discipline, and hard work ethic to students of all backgrounds and ages - teaching in elementary schools, churches, orphanages, homes, colleges, and in parks. Whether it be learning a new skill, learning to defend yourself or others, learning to de-escalate potentially dangerous situations, or having the confidence to stand up for yourself: I have had the privilege of teaching children and adults alike to strive for better. Wherever there's a student who earnestly wants to learn, I have gladly given my all to help them achieve their vision.

I have been teaching Taekwondo for all ages, experience levels, and training goals. I have brought an enthusiastic college team to win multiple tournaments, with two collegiate titles and two National level titles. I currently train toddlers, children, teens and adults, working with different styles in order to develop body confidence, self-discipline, respect, and high caliber athletic performance. I have a National level Kukkiwon grade 2nd Don Black belt and train and teach on a daily basis. I am energetic, personable, and very enthused about the sport and martial art Taekwondo and I love teaching, exercise, and having fun while learning.

I am a two time National Collegiate Championship 1st Place sparring champion. I was the Cornell University Sport Taekwondo team practice leader. During my two years as the practice leader we won the ECTC (Eastern Collegiate Taekwondo Conference) Championships both years and the National Collegiate overall Championships our senior year. I have learned from the best while studying in Seoul, Korea, and have learned from US National Team coaches. I coach weightlifters, have run the NYC marathon and am training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Boxing, and Kali.

My coaching philosophy and session plans are focused on the individual and their goals. You can expect warm ups, stretches, technique learnings, active drilling, and controlled sparring, with variations to learn boxing and grappling fundamentals.

A session could look like this:
10 min: Warm Ups / Dynamic Stretches
10 min: Technique Development
20 min: Drills and Focused exercises
10 min: Controlled sparring
10 min: Timing Games for Children / Free Spar or Active drilling for Teens + Adults

Great first class!

Although I'm new to the field, it was obvious to me after working with Mo for a short while that he is an extremely talented Taekwondo artist. His movements are graceful and steady, his punches/kicks fast and powerful. Beyond these physical attributes, he's very knowledgeable in both Taekwondo and the human body. We had a running dialogue through the session and he was able to explain various concepts effectively and simply. Overall, he has a direct and pragmatic teaching style which I appreciated. I also liked that we began with a discussion of my goals and he tailored the class to fit them. I suggest him highly to anyone looking to learn Taekwondo. I certainly plan to train with him more.
