More About Coach Mike

To start, I'd like to say that I am not in this for the money. I enjoy the art of throwing and am looking to help anyone that needs a second set of eyes on their throw. I am available to any athlete that wants to take their throws to the next level and I feel that learning the throws should not cost you a fortune.

Also, I would like to encourage parents to stay and take notes of things we work on throughout the sessions. This will help when your athlete is training on their own and may not remember some of the drills or ways of doing things that we work on in the training sessions.

For coaching experience, I have worked with groups of athletes ranging between the ages of 6-23. I was a coach for the Dupage Track Club when I was in High School, then assisted teammates in college to better understand the technique in the throws. I am not a professional coach, but I do understand the art of throwing and what techniques create a solid throw. I am very familiar with the rotational Shot Put and Discus, but not so much with the Hammer, Weight or Javelin.

Athletically, I have competed in some of the biggest meets for High School and some College. In High School I earned the achievement of All-american in the Shot Put at the USATF National Championships. I competed in the USATF National Championships 4 times throughout High School. In College, I competed in the NCAA Division II National Championships in the Discus Throw once and placed 15th.
High School PR - Shot Put 18.16m Discus 58.50
Collegiate PR - Shot Put 15.22 Discus 55.12

It really depends on what each athlete is looking to improve and what their best way of learning is. I am big on drilling. All throughout my time throwing, I have always found drills to be the best way to attempt to perfect your throw. By focusing in on specific aspects of the throw, you are able to understand what your body is doing and why it helps or hurts your technique and distance. I have many drills that I have learned in my 11 years of throwing and will be more than happy to share them with anyone that is looking to learn them.

If an athlete would like to learn through analysis of their full throw with an implement, I would be more than happy to review their throws and give my input on the good's and bad's and how to improve on them.
