More About Coach Mike

I bring an extensive soccer background to the table having played, coached and scouted in a variety of capacities over the last 25 years. Currently I am a college soccer scout for the National Scouting Report and coaching at the youth club and college club levels in Boise, Idaho.

As a College Soccer Scout, I evaluate top-level high school players at college showcases across the country and manage selected athletes through the college recruiting process. I have assisted players in committing to play soccer at colleges and universities from coast to coast and all levels of play (DI, DII, DIII, NAIA, JuCo).

I was first introduced to the scouting world in 2010 by successfully completing the Soccer Management & Scouting course via Sports Management Worldwide, under mentor Matt Martin. I then went on to earn U.S. Soccer coaching licenses (USSF E and D) and have coached boys and girls at the high school, youth club, and college club levels in Ohio, Oregon, Colorado, and Idaho.

I started playing soccer as a fourth grader in 1994. I went on to play club for CESA in Columbus, Ohio and varsity soccer at the high school level from freshman year and on. I continued playing after high school at the adult club level for several seasons, until retiring from playing competitively, though I still play recreational to keep my fitness and love of the game going.

While soccer is truly a team sport, it is critical that each individual player be as stout and well-rounded within their own game as possible. Often times, young players find themselves only training within the structured atmosphere at organized team sessions. I highly recommend that players of all ages and abilities train on their own, whether alone in the backyard, with friends at a park, or 1 on 1 with a coach, all are imperative for improving.

My approach is simple, but not easy… In order for any player to upgrade their soccer ability, it is key that they become students of the game. I teach players to look at the sport as if it is an area of study, much like subjects in school. They must watch the game in a new way, view the game in a new way, and learn the game in a new way, which in turn will allow them to PLAY the game in a new way.

Client Reviews

Coach Mike went above and beyond to help my daughter improve her soccer skills. He attended her soccer games and watched her game tape. He really listened to our concerns and tailored her sessions around her needs. He always made himself available for questions and offered great feedback. We saw immediate improvements with our daughter and she really enjoyed her sessions. We would most definitely recommend Coach Mike to anyone!

Session was great! My sons first task was to review himself like a scouting report. Really made him think about his strengths and weekenesses. Proceeded right into to drills and sent him home with “homework”. I can see an improvement after just one session. Looking forward to next session.
