More About Coach Michael
I’ve been coaching youth basketball for the past two years ranging from ages 8 - 18 for both girls and boys. My basketball career began when I was 4 years old. I have played collegiate basketball for three years, until and injury ended my career early. I have mostly worked with youth players individually, but have experience with college and professional players. I study the game religiously and continue to improve my individual player development skills and adapt to the player I’m work with.
I’ve been a three sport athlete (football, basketball, and baseball) since I was 4 years old. I was recruited for all three sports and earned all-section awards for each. I ultimately chose basketball in college because of my passion and desire for the game. I was a three-year starter in my collegiate career.
A typical session with me revolves are specific skill work a player is looking to improve. The initial session will be skill sessions on the main aspects of the game like form shooting, ball handling, passing, on-ball defensive skills, etc. Once a baseline is established we will hone in on skills in that aspect. There will still be skill work accounted for on the other aspects.
Typically, I will have players work on their form shooting and tweak it slightly to create a more efficient and consistent jump shot. There are a lot of shooting drills to work on catch and shoot, off the dribble, or off movement shooting to make them a better all around shooter.
A typical session will begin with form shooting. Then, will move into specific skill work aimed to improve skill and increase endurance. After the player has worked hard through some skill intensive drills and is fatigued, we will continue to work on shooting to work on improving in-game shooting.
