FMU’s Wolf earns All-District Academic Softball Honors

FLORENCE, S.C. – Francis Marion University senior left-handed pitcher Michaela Wolf has been selected to the 2010 ESPN The Magazine® Academic All-District III (College Division) women's softball team. Wolf possesses a 3.58 grade point average as a mass communications major.

This awards program is conducted by the College Sports Information Directors of America, and District III includes Florida, Georgia, Virginia, and North and South Carolina.

Wolf, a native of Littleton, Colo., was named to the 12-player first-team All-District squad, and will now be placed on the national Academic All-American ballot.

In the academic arena, Wolf is a member of Chi Alpha Sigma national college athlete honor society, and is a two-time NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete (with this year’s award yet to be handed out). She was a member of the 2009 PBC All-Academic Team, has been named to the Peach Belt Conference Presidential Honor Roll three times and the FMU Swamp Fox Athletic-Academic Honor Roll four times, and earned a Division II ADA Academic Achievement Award for 2007-08.

A four-year starter on the field, she leads the Patriot pitching staff with a 20-8 record and a 2.05 earned run average. The southpaw has compiled 26 complete games, including three shutouts, in 28 starts. She has struck out 158 batters in 181.1 innings, while walking only 44, and opponents are batting only .248 against her. She ranks second in the PBC in victories and sixth in strikeouts. She has yet to commit a fielding error in 42 chances this season.

At the plate, she has a team-best .381 batting average with eight doubles, four home runs, and 34 runs batted in. Her on-base percentage of .504 ranks second in the Peach Belt and 44th nationally. She has registered 11 multi-hit games and nine multi-RBI games, while fanning only 10 times in 134 plate appearances. She is also batting .450 with two outs.

She has helped the Patriots to a 34-14 record, including an appearance in the Peach Belt Tournament championship game. FMU is currently waiting for Monday’s announcement of the NCAA Division II National Tournament field to see if its season will continue.

Wolf holds nearly every FMU career pitching record, including most wins (90), games pitched (148), complete games (106), strikeouts (741), and innings pitched (881.2). She is the only pitcher in school history to win 20 games in four different seasons, and she ranks third in PBC history for wins and fourth in strikeouts.

Wolf is a product of Columbine High School where she was a two-time All-Conference selection.

Sessions will focus on key mechanics that will help increase speed, accuracy, as well as long term injury prevention. Leg drive, spin, arm speed, body positioning and timing, pitch speed and location variations, plus unique drills and tools that will be tailored to the player depending on her age/skill level.

I take pride in separating myself from my competitors by working for the full amount of time allotted for my clients, while being very hands on; showing, demonstrating, reflecting with my client on what I would like for her to work on. I move around my players, stand back by the plate, behind the pitcher, catcher, hitter, etc. to have different angles and viewpoints where I can get a better idea of where there needs to be some adjustments made or when I need to make suggestions.

I value the advantage of having a catcher, not just having my pitchers pitch into a net or a mat at the end of the tunnel, especially for my older girls, so that pitchers can see pitch movement and receive feedback on speed and spin.

I put my all into every lesson, for every girl, every day. It’s my passion, softball runs through my veins, and I am confident in saying that my players and parents will see that from me every time they come to see me.

Please know that session prices are always negotiable and I am willing to work with you to find something that works for you and your family. I will never let money stand in the way of hard working girls who just want to get better.

Coach Michaela is a very good instructor. My daughter felt like a new player after just one lesson. Highly recommended.

We were very happy with what she was showing our daughter. We were basically working on fundamentals and technique. She is excited to go back again. Thanks for all your help.

Coach Micheala was great! She quickly broke down and assessed my daughter's pitching technique and was able to correct a few things and get her working on a more sound fundamental. Can't wait to go back!

Coach Michaela rocks! Michaela’s knowledge and experience as a pitcher shows every time she is working with my daughter.
We love that Michaela is hands on. She is out on the dirt the whole lesson with my daughter showing her exactly what to do and how to move. She tweaks even the smallest of movements to ensure that my daughter has the proper pitching technique.
Michaela also works with my daughter on speed drills and strength training. She uses a variety of tools and equipment for my daughter to work with at every lesson, which keeps things fun and new.
My daughter looks forward to her lesson with Michaela and I leave every lesson impressed with the way Michaela teaches and interacts with my daughter.
I definitely recommend Coach Michaela!

Coach Michaela is a fantastic coach. After just one batting lesson my daughter's technique and confidence improved significantly. Coach Michaela is a master technician when it comes to form, breaking down each movement and isolating what needs tweeked. I would fully recommend her and plan to continue our lessons to take my daughter to the next level!

Coach Michaela was great in showing my daughter what she should be doing with her pitching mechanics. She was very encouraging and broke down the mechanics so that my daughter picked up really quickly and would be able to practice it on her own between sessions.

After my daughter's first lesson, she declared Coach Michaela earned two million stars! She appreciated her hands-on approach as she demonstrated alongside her what she wanted her to do. My daughter said she was positive, fun, and gave her constructive feedback and an appropriate amount of "homework". Coach Michaela ended the session with her feeling successful! I appreciated the amount of time my daughter actively practiced pitching mechanics in the one-hour session. My daughter is excited for her next lesson!

Coach Michaela was awesome! My 10yr old left her session feeling confident and knowledgeable about her new skills that she was taught by Coach Michaela. Michaela has a bright and fun personality, yet firm and easy to follow with her instructions. She responded within minutes to my request for a session and was very flexible when weather didn't permit. She finished her session with a quick review and it was clear our daughter took so much away in such a short amount of time. She truly used every second of our one hour session and our daughter walked away with confidence to attend her competitive softball tryouts. We look forward to another session very soon!

Coach Michaela is a fantastic softball coach and person. She works with my daughter one to two times per week, and my daughter always looks forward to working with her! Coach Michaela has helped my daughter with new skills, honing existing skills, and confidence. For beginners or advanced athletes, I would recommend Coach Michaela to anyone!

Perfect job!

This is a reference letter for Michaela Wolf. I am the head softball coach at Francis Marion University in Florence, SC. Michaela was a member of the FMU softball team for four years. She was someone who I knew I wanted here from the start. She brought a type of intensity to the field that I loved. She’s the type of student-athlete every coach would want on their team from an athletic standpoint and an academic standpoint. She was an All-America Scholar Athlete as well as receiving several athletic awards including being named an NFCA All-American as a Pitcher/Utility player. She was inducted into the Chi Alpha Sigma honor society her junior year. All in all, she is one of the best student-athletes I have ever had. I say student-athlete because that is exactly what she is, she is someone who is doing much more than “just being a student.” She has dedicated herself to this softball program. She is a leader on and off the field. Our program is very rigorous and demanding. She has stepped up to the plate with all of it and then some. She was our number one pitcher since her freshman year, as well as our number four hitter in the lineup. Pitching is a position that demands extra work, dedication and leadership qualities. She has all of those. She helped lead us to four very successful seasons, including two trips to the NCAA post-season and in 2008 she helped lead us all the way to the Women’s DII College World Series. So not only is she competitive in the classroom she was part of a very competitive softball program. She was also named caption of the team for her sophomore and junior years; as well as being a member of our leadership council her senior year. She is someone the girls always looked up to and respected. All of this speaks volumes to her dedication, leadership and work ethic. She is someone who will be missed next year, athletically and academically. No matter where she lands she will be a very positive reflection of that department. I think that she is very deserving of any employment she receives; she works hard and should be rewarded for all her efforts. I think it would be a mistake not to look at her beyond what she looks like on paper, although she does look pretty good on paper.
This letter is to familiarize you with Michaela Wolf. I have known her for over 10 years. I began coaching her in 12U competitive softball and I still have yet to meet a person with a work ethic such as hers. I have watched her grow into a responsible and exceptional athlete, student and person. Whether she is in an academic or athletic setting, she gives to others without measure or consideration for herself. She takes on challenges with an open mind and rises to exceed the expectations set in front of her. She takes her life and love for the game of softball very seriously. In addition to holding a 3.58 GPA, and earning a mass communications degree, she also played a full time collegiate softball schedule setting many pitching records at Francis Marion University. In addition to coaching her, I have had the pleasure of working along side her as a professional softball instructor. She has a thirst for education and uses that tool to further her own knowledge as well as those around her. Her athletes look up to her and strive to reach her expectations. She sets the bar high for her athletes, knowing that the road may not be easy, but in the end, it will be worth it. Female athletes need positive role models in their lives and Michaela does not let them down. She leads by example, using her own personal trials to relate to her athletes, reminding them, we are all human and it’s not whether or not we fail, but what we learn from failing that allows us to succeed. Her potential is limitless, as her desire for education is never ending in all areas of her life. I would not be the person, nor the instructor I am, if that part that is Michaela was not in my life. I know that I have taught her many things over the last 10 years, but she has taught me more than she’ll ever know. I highly recommend Michaela Wolf for the position at hand, as her drive, determination, work ethic and heart will only add to your company and its overall goals.
I have had the pleasure of knowing Michaela for the past four years. As the assistant athletic trainer for Francis Marion University, I have assisted Michaela with her healthcare needs throughout her athletic career. It takes a tremendous person to compete not only on the playing field but in the classroom and Michaela has been able to do that at the highest level. Michaela has amassed numerous awards on and off the field including, but not limited to: 2008 1st team NFCA All-American, 2x PBC All-Conference, 2x NFCA All-American Scholar-Athlete, 4x PBC Presidential Honor Roll, 4x FMU Swamp Fox Athletic-Academic Honor Roll, Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society, and team captain. Michaela has not only had success on and off the field, but has also been tremendous in dealing with adversity by overcoming injuries throughout her career. I mention this aspect specifically because she has shown incredible resolve to battle her way through that adversity with a “never give up” attitude. For the many accolades that Michaela has accumulated throughout her career at FMU none come close to matching the tremendous person that Michaela is.
