More About Coach Michael J

I have been coaching sprints, relays and horizontal jumps at a college in Sacramento, CA for the past 12 years. I have also been the strength and conditioning coach for the Women's Volleyball and Basketball teams at the college. I have 8 years of coaching experience at the high school level for track and field, cross country and basketball. I am a USATF Level II Coaching certification (sprints, hurdles and relays). I have coached 44 State Champions at the California Community College Track and Field Championships over the past 7 years and over 70 All-Americans at the California Community College Track and Field Championships in the past 7 years.

I also train current NCAA NFL Prospects in the enhancement of their speed and agility in preparation for the NFL Combine, their individual NCAA Pro Day testing as well as Team and Individual Try-outs for various Professional Level teams in Soccer, Football, and Baseball as well as Track and Field. Our success ratio as far as being able to decrease 40 yard dash times, Shuttle Drill Testing results, improve lateral and horizontal movement abilities is proven and highly effect.

My various connections with Coaches all across the nation has also allowed me the ability to constantly seek out and enhance my training methods in order to better serve my athletes and clients. Once you have trained with me, you will be ready to adapt to and and implement any NCAA / Professional level training module out there today.

I have several athletes at various universities who still come home during the summer and winter months in order to fine-tune their athletic abilities. We are very proud of our alumni connection and more than pleased to accommodate their desire for individualized training needs and those recommended by their current coaching staff. This also includes a strength and conditioning component as well as a Sports Chiropractic and nutrition component.

In 2007, I was the California Community College Track and Field Assistant Women's Coach of the Year, the same year the team won the State Championship. I was selected to attend the 2009 Emerging Elite Coaches Clinic at the US Olympic Training Center, Chula Vista, CA for Track and Field Coaches. I have coached three athletes in the US Track and Field Championships and Olympic Trials: Kianti Gix - 400m / 200m entrant (2010 US Track and Field Championships) and Diondre Batson - 100m (2011 US Jr. Track and Field Championships) - 200m (2012 US Olympic Trials Track and Field Meet) (Fastest time in the US in Community / Jr. College in the short sprints 10.10(w) 100m & 20.50 (200m). Also won the California Community College Assistant Coach of the Year for a second time in 2011. In 2014 coached Robert Ellis (Freshman at American River College) to a 3rd Place finish at the Community College State Meet in the 100m at 10.34, and a fourth Place Finish in the 200m. His 200m PR in 2014 is now 20.79. Robert also finished 3rd in the 200m at the 2014 Jr. National Championships in Eugene, Oregon running 20.81. I have also had success with the women sprinters in my charge with many of them improving over 1 second and jumping extremely well. I have coached the 2016 YW 17-18 yr old Bronze Medalist in the Jr. Olympic Nationals this past month in Sacramento. The past five years of girls LJ/TJ winners in the San Joaquin section have been coached by myself. I am humbled by the trust and effort that these ladies have placed in me.

I am providing personal training for several of the area's Top High School and Collegiate athletes in various sports. I take great pride in what we have been able to accomplish and look forward to the opportunity to serve your needs.

My typical session format includes the following modules:

Session I
Discussion on desired outcomes from training.
Goal setting on how to attain the level of desired outcomes.

Client Reviews

This is our first private coaching experience. Coach Reid is very approachable. Myself and my daughter immediately felt comfortable with Coach Reid. He took video of my daughter and broke it down in slow motion to show her areas of improvement. My daughter learned some technique improvement in just the first session. Looking forward to continuing to work with Coach Reid.

I feel that I will reach my goal(s) with Coach Michael J after one session. He is intuitive, and knows his stuff!

I had Michael do a tune-up session with my 13 y/o son before his middle school league finals meet. This is his first year in T&F, and already was leading his team in multiple events, but needed in a little outside guidance in race strategy and how to run more efficiently. Michael was the right man for the job. With a few tweaks, he was running more fluidly, and that transformed into quicker lap times. He now has a great foundation to build upon, thanks to Michael.

Coach Mike did a great job helping my son (13) and my daughter (15) improve their high jump bests. I initiated the first session but both of the kids asked that they go back, so we did and will be going again this track season. The critique and drills he gave them made a definite difference.

First professional track coach we had. Exceeded our expectation. My son was impressed the way he coach, learned a lot at his first meeting. Highly recommended.

My daughter Anabella, Sophomore, HS, had her first track session by Coach Michael. She stated that she learned a lot on technique from the starting block and her arms. She really enjoyed working with Coach Michael. She looks forward in working with Coach to work on her running and training techniques.

Michael really has an understanding of the mechanics of running and running at your peak. My son has really embraced it, and the results speak for them self.

Michael was very attentive and precise. He said just enough to make technical corrections to my acceleration phase, reviewed video with me after each rep, and was subtle about making me rest enough between reps. He was willing to explain the "why" of each correction and even made suggestions for what I should continue to practice prior to resuming work with my regular coach.

He was flexible about scheduling, as I was traveling from out of town, and stayed focused on exactly the goal I requested.

I strongly recommend Michael to any sprinter in the Sacramento area and, if I travel out here again, will book more sessions with him myself.

Great coaching and I truly feel he has the best interests of my son in mind. He is also respectful of the parents and understands the investment we are making in our children by sending them to him. I would wholeheartedly recommend him to anyone who is serious about improving.
