More About Coach Matt
I have coached at numerous levels. During my professional offseasons, I have helped coach at my high school I attended (Wesleyan Academy, High Point, NC) as well as I have helped out with training sessions at Point Loma Nazarene University. I have work with kids as young as 6 years old all the way to college athletes aspiring to be professional athletes one day. I am currently working on receiving my National coaching license within the US Federation system.
I have competed both at the collegiate level and professional level. I played soccer at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 2009-2010. I also played at Point Loma Nazarene University from 2013-14. I played professionally with the Portland Timbers in the MLS as well as the Portland Timbers 2 in the United Soccer League. I am currently playing with the Tampa Bay Rowdies in the NASL and have been loaned to the Rowdies 2 for the summer of 2016 to play in the NPSL.
Depending on the age of the player, I typically start of the session with some movement and footwork. That would involve ladder drills and dynamic stretching and running. After that I move in to technical work. I believe technical work is the basis for all soccer related movements. You must be efficient in technical work before we can move on to situational movements and tactics. Each session is different. I want to encompass all aspects of the game however depending on the position of the player, I have flexibility to hone in on certain aspects of the game

Client Reviews

Coach Matt provided a great session for our 14-yr old son. We were visiting from out of town and wanted our son to get a good workout in. Matt worked right alongside our son (they both how to do push-up penalties for some drills!). Matt provided positive reinforcement whilst correcting when necessary. Thanks Matt for the encouragement and workout!

My daughter raved about the great training session she had with Coach Matt. She is hoping to have more training sessions with him soon. It was a great technical workout with plenty of exercise done in a fun way. She was exhausted afterwards but said she learned a lot and had fun. Excellent!
