More About Coach Matthew

Hi, I look forward to getting the opportunity to coach your sons or daughters! I prefer working with children ages 10-17, and am best suited to teach point guards and shooting guards. I am also open to working with adults if they need a little help with their game! A bit about myself:

I was a McDonald's All-American nominee during my senior year at Walter Johnson High School (Bethesda, MD), averaging 21 points per game.

I was a four year starter at Swarthmore College (Swarthmore, PA), where I am a member of the 1,000 point club, third all-time in assists, fourth all-time in steals, and fourth all-time in 3-point field goals made.

I think that individual instruction should be tailored to three things:
1. What a player needs to improve (and to this end, I like to start my coaching relationship by attending a game to take notes on the player's in-game performance)

2. What a player wants to improve (serious players often know themselves better than their coaches and will self-identify areas of need in their game)

3. What a player needs to help them advance in basketball (teaching sophisticated moves like the Euro-step and helping to get the player thinking like a coach)

I use my wealth of experience in basketball, and all of the numerous drills that I picked up at basketball camps, high school basketball, and college basketball to put together intense 30, 45, 60, or 90 minute coaching sessions. If your son or daughter is willing to put in the work, then I will help them become the best basketball player they can be!

Swarthmore College:
All-Centennial Conference Honorable Mention
1,033 points (one of 18 members of 1,000-point club in school history)
278 assists (3rd all-time)
108 steals (4th all-time)
163 3-point field goals (4th all-time)

Walter Johnson High School:
McDonald's All-American Nominee
Washington Post Player of the Week (Scored 90 points in leading team to a 2-1 record one week)
All-County First Team
21 points per game as a senior
