More About Coach Martin

I been coaching and training youth basketball teams since 2002, which include first graders to high school. I have operated basketball summer camps for grades 1-8 in Ventura, California. My favorite challenge is those students that have a lot of heart, but just not enough talent yet. I enjoy working with individuals 1 on 1, because its the best time to improve individual skills in both weakness and strengths. A typical student comes to me because they did not make there team, never played basketball, or needed help improving there game during there off season. I have developed my own unique 1 on 1 sessions which I have improved every year.

My sessions start with a dynamic warm up, speed and agility drills, ball handling, passing, triple threat moves, realistic game situation shooting drills. I also teach basic shooting techniques for less experienced players who are looking polish there skills. I been coaching a middle school team ever year as a volunteer since 2002.

My volunteer position as a junior high school basketball coach includes back to back tournament championships, league champions, and Catholic schools leagues. I completed my Level 1 youth fitness specialist through the International Youth Conditioning Association, which I incorporate into my basketball training sessions. I am a firm believer that anyone can improve there basketball knowledge and skills with the right trainer and student interest. I am here to help. I played sports through out my life until high school. I did not play in college, but I am a great believer that just because you play in the collegiate level, does not mean you can coach or teach the game. I am one of those that can teach young players how to improve as individuals and as team players.

I would start off with some dynamic warm-ups without the ball and talking with students to get a feel for them and were they are at mentally with the game. I would engage in additional conversation to explore what they feel are there strengths and weaknesses that they would like to see improvement.

From there I would give them a ball and have them complete a serious of about 4 drills to determine were they are at with dribbling, ball handling, footwork, and shooting. After doing this, I would than determine what type of improvements to work on there strengths as well as there weaknesses.

Last 15 minutes I would include some speed and agility training specific to basketball. These drills include both with the ball and without. After the first session I will ask the student for some feed back on how they did. This will than prepare for putting together a short term goal and long term goal teaching plan.

Client Reviews

My son is a little uncomfortable doing 1-1 when he doesn't know the person, but we went ahead and tried a session with Martin. He was great. My son felt comfortable and it was a great overall experience for him. Martin taught him drills and techniques that he could easily take with him and practice at home. My husbands bad I appreciated that Martin informed us about his Strache for the session and we heard only encouraging remarks from Martin as he instructed. After the session was my son said he wanted to meet with him again. Good sign... Thanks Martin!

Really great coach/trainer, I would consider him if you want to take your game to another level

My son (age 10) truly enjoyed his session with Coach Martin. We arrived and Coach Martin was set up and ready to go. He put my son through some great drills and left him with drills to do on his own to improve his skills. It was a great workout to boot. Coach Martin was supportive and instructional. I would definitely recommend Coach Martin to anyone.

Coach Martin was very good... He taught my son so much and improved his skills and his confidence level. He is a fabulous coach and I highly recommend him!

Coach Martin is very good trainer. He has been extremely helpful in developing my son's basketball skills. I strongly recommend Coach Martin's training sessions to anyone intrested in learning basketball.
