More About Coach Mackenzie

Soccer has been my passion since I was 4 years old and began playing. Once my competitive playing days were over, I continued to play for fun in rec. leagues, intramurals, etc. and eventually jumped into the coaching side of the game. I officially began coaching at the high school and elementary/middle school level 4 years ago at a local private school and began working with some of my players individually on the side. It has been a challenge and very rewarding to see my players and teams grow with my guidance and of course their hard work and discipline. I enjoyed this so much that I began doing individual training sessions for clients of all ages (my clientele base has ranged from 5 years old to a collegiate level player).

I have the passion, patience, knowledge, and experience needed to be able to successfully coach both young players proper fundamentals and more developed players looking to sharpen their skills and understanding. Fundamentals, technical development, and footwork are VERY important, but so is understanding the game so you can play smart.

I grew up in the El Paso, Texas area and have been playing soccer since the age of four years old. I played club soccer until I graduated high school, and in high school I was a four year Varsity starter at Franklin High School (02-06) leading the defense from the Sweeper position.

During my time at Franklin, we reached playoffs every year, and were back-to-back 1-5A District champions my Junior and Senior year. In addition to our team accomplishments, I received many individual awards and honors. During my: Freshman year I received Second team All-District; Sophomore year First Team All District; Junior year First Team All-City; and my Senior year I was voted District 1-5A Defensive MVP, was once again awarded First Team All-City, and was invited to play in the All-State Senior game in Georgetown, TX.

Although I was blessed with an amazing high school career, and am an advocate and supporter of those wanting to play at the next level(s), I made the tough personal decision and chose not to pursue playing at the collegiate level and strictly focused on my educational goals instead.

I do not believe I can answer in detail "what a typical session with me would be like?", or "what do I focus on (specific drills or techniques?" as every athlete has their own specific needs, and I do not believe in a cookie cutter approach for improvement.
That being said, a client can expect me at the first session to sit down with the athlete for a few minutes and have a conversation about soccer (what they enjoy about it, what their favorite position is, etc.) to gather some insight from them directly, as well as run them through basic drills to assess their strengths and weaknesses. This first session with shape future sessions and allow me to develop a plan of attack on what areas to focus on. The strategy plan will vary based on the client’s needs, but the client can expect emphasis on technical training as well as footwork drills that are tailored to their needs.
At the start of each typical session, the client can expect me to properly warm-up and stretch with the athlete, and physically show (not just tell) the athlete how to do the drills. I believe in a hands on approach to learning, and feel that players are more engaged and excited to learn when the teacher/coach is passionate and is doing it with them. Establishing a connection and being engaged in practice is important, as the athlete should have a positive and trusting relationship with their coach. While the athlete can expect hard work, they can also expect to have fun.

Very positive and patient. I would recommend her especially for young kids. Well done!

I had the pleasure of working alongside Mackenzie for two years while coaching the varsity soccer team at Loretto Academy. Having played and been around the sport her whole life, Mackenzie's grasp and knowledge on the game is 2nd to none, and her passion for coaching and getting the most from her players showed every day. Her ability to relate to young players allows her to connect with them on a personal level, which results in her ability to instruct them on the field. She is not only a great coach but also a great role model to the future generation of soccer.
