More About Coach Luke

Born in Tennessee, but raised mostly in Uganda and Kenya, I developed a passion for soccer from an early age. I love soccer because its fun, and when you put in a lot of hard work it can become really beautiful.

I have been teaching and training young soccer players for the past 8 years. The basis for my coaching comes from the principles of nurturing a love for the game, while developing and maturing the technical, physical, and mental aspects specific to soccer. That's the foundation I learned from my parents, from my college and my USL coaches. That translates to dynamic warm-ups, fun skill based games, and drills that develop important soccer muscle memory.

I have worked with players of all ages, coached U8 - U13 A, B, and C level teams, trained players to tryout for teams, and simply hosted games at various facilities. I have the most extensive experience with children ages 4-8, beginner and advanced. I love to see a young player learn a move or a technique that makes them so excited they can't wait to show their parents or use it on their teammates.

In college, I played varsity soccer and I was awarded a spot on the 2nd team All Conference. After college I ended up playing a season with the USL team, Brooklyn Knights, before knee problems forced me to stop playing competitive soccer.

For 9 years I've been coaching youth and was held the Senior Head Coach position at SuperSoccerStars in NY and LA for 5 years. I also hold an Advanced Regional Coaching Certification from the NSCAA, and am certified in CPR/first aid.

One of my proudest accomplishments was head coaching a new travel soccer C-level team and over the course of two years helping them progress to being promoted from C division to B and then from the B to the A division just before I moved to Los Angeles.

Younger Children: Our classes for younger children are fun and friendly, while teaching soccer fundamentals as well as dynamic movement, coordination and balance. We do this through soccer specific games and drills that are fun for everyone involved! We promote a non-competitive environment proven by premier soccer development research to be the most effective in growing a child's confidence, technical ability, and cooperation with other children.

Older Children: Depending on the level of the player, I develop my sessions to fit their needs and their desires, with a main focus on ball mastery and 1v1 attacking/defending. This includes footwork, specific body positioning and movements, and lots and lots of repetition. Once some comfort with the ball is established, I'll add different kinds of pressure to imitate a game-like context. My goal is that after each session, the athlete will walk away with a greater confidence in his or her game, and an excitement for the next chance to play to use what they learned.

Coach Luke was awesome! My 10 year old son just completed his first session. He had so much fun, but most importantly learned ball control techniques that will benefit him. Coach Luke managed to make learning those new techniques fun and kept it challenging and interesting. The hour flew by!! We can't wait for the next session. I definitely recommend Coach Luke!!
