More About Coach Lorraine
I have been teaching yoga to all levels of people for the past year. Teaching children ages 2 yrs and up to adults up to ages 80. I love yoga and believe it benefits everyone especially athletes to gain flexibility and vitality in mind body and spirit. I am RYT200 certified and certified in Health Coaching from the Institute of Integrative Nutrition.
I have been practicing yoga for the past 25 years. I have run 1 marathon 2 half marathons and 10 Broad Street Runs. I came in third place at the Philadelphia Run 1 mile race in May 2002. I have been athletic all of my life playing basketball, running lifting weights and doing yoga. I now focus on my yoga practice because it is beneficial to me in so many ways. It keeps me flexible, strong and balanced working out my body and mind.
A typical session consists of holding postures and flows, breathing and relaxation. I would concentrate on flexibility and balance for an athlete so they could get all the benefits they need from their regular workout. the beginning of the session starts with a torso lengthening forward, sideways and backward with a forward fold to lengthen and loosen the hamstrings and lower back. I would then go into to warrior poses and lunges to stretch and strengthen the legs and arm, shoulder and upper torso. Next I would focus on balancing poses like tree, eagle and standing head to knee pose- I modify these poses as necessary according to the level of students. I then introduce a challenge pose according to the asanas that we built up to- Ex crow, split or half split etc.. finally we do some floor postures and then breathing and relaxation.
