More About Coach Kori

I have played softball since i was 6 years old. I played at every high level, travel ball to high school varsity all 4 years, and tow 4 years of college softball. Once i finished college softball my coaching career really took off. I coached a travel ball team of 12 and 14 year olds and eventually i took over the program of 5 teams from 10u to 14u. I also was a high school jv and varsity coach all in the state of arizona and now im looking to move my coaching over to califrona.

Before high school my career high lights were always making all star teams and being picked to play in the showcase teams in front of college coaches. In 2010 I started high school softball. In high school my freshman year I was the only freshman starter on Varsity at Wilson high school in Long Beach California. I received rookie of the year, my local news papers dream team, 1st team all league as the only freshman, and offensive player of the year as the number 2 batter. My sophomore year of 2011 I again received 1st team all league, and earned defensive player of the year as the starting short stop. My Junior year 2012, I again received 1st team all league and I also got the game winning hit to take our team to first place for the first time in 20 years. My senior year of 2013 I again received 1st team all league and was award as the only girl in the league to have all 4 years first team, I also was named defensive player of the year. I graduated high school and went to play community college softball at college of the canyons where I lead the conference in stolen bases and hits overall. I batted over .500 and I was in the top 5 best batting average in the whole conference and top 15 in the whole state. I was 1st team all conference and was nominated for state all American. My second year of community college I batted .495 had 22 steals on the season and had 2 errors total of 251 tries.

Pitching

Pitching has been a part of softball that I enjoy teaching to younger groups of girls. To start a normal pitching lesson I would first take a player through snaps and proper ways to hold the ball for different pitches such as curve rise and change up screw and fastballs in and outside. Being 5 feet away from the catcher and or wall I will show the proper technique of where their hand is supposed to start and finish. After we will move back half way from where the pitching mound is stand open and do half circles with the same technique of making sure our grip is correct along with the motion of your arm with different pitches and making sure your start and finish matches each pitch. With this drill you can change the difficulty over time with weighted balls and resistance bands. Once that is complete we will move to walk through pitches to loosen up their legs. Then I would take the girls through a full motion and continue on from there with special pitching drills that help with endurance and also strengthen. I like to add lots of conditioning to my drills so a pitcher can last a whole game.

Hitting

To start with hitting I always like to start with stationary hitting and drills that work on your legs and our core but also your arms. For hitting I like focus on using every part of your body which most coaches do not do. I have so many drills that I have been taught and used in my coaching. I like to focus on teaching situational hitting where i give the hitter a game like situation and see what she can do to change her swing and keep the game going. I believe that every softball player can swing the bat it’s a matter of how and when she can swing the bat. I also like to do live hitting where I can pitch a full pitch on a field so she can see where her boy goes in a live game. Hitting is 70% mental and that’s my main focus is to prepare a player for a game and the metal side of the game. Helping the player to not be in their head and helping the player realize that there will be a lot of failure and how do we overcome that failure.

Fielding

Defense I would have to say is my biggest strength as a player and as a coach. I like to first focus on stationary drills that focus on the proper placement of your feet hands bottom and chest. After that I focus on the quickness and the softness of your hands when the ball is entering your glove. After that I like to focus on footwork and moving through and around the ball putting all the steps taught before together into one motion. Once the technique is improved it is time to focus on the players primary position and work not only on playing that position but mentally playing the position as well.

Client Reviews

The first lesson was awesome. My daughter felt so comfortable and like the way she explained the process. She makes some suggestions and recommendations in her batting technique. It was a great investment.

Coach Kori is great so far my daughter like her and she already has improved.

Kori was great! She covered so much on our first lesson with her. She asked a lot of questions to really find out what kind of ball player my daughter was and to help find ways to make her stronger and faster. We look forward to continue working with her!
