More About Coach Kevon

I have volunteered with various pee wee league football teams throughout California and New York. While with those teams, I've coached defensive line and special teams. I once held an Assistant Coach position with the Bayside Raiders for a season. I've done some private training session with defensive athletes ranging from pee-wee to collegiate level. I've volunteered for 2 defensive skill camps: one was a defense exclusive camp where I worked with defensive linemen, the other was a conditioning camp.

Played football since the age of 4. Played with the Bayside Raiders. While playing there, was a part of the league All- Star team 4 times. Was named Defensive Player of the year and broke the record for sacks in a game with 5. I went on to play football at Flushing High School. While in Flushing, broke two school records in one game (sacks in a game and force fumbles in a game). Was named Defensive Player of the month for 6 months straight in my sophomore year. Was part of the All Defensive team 2 years straight. After high school, I enlisted in the Marine Corps. In 2008, got selected to the All Marine Corps football team. In 2009, I led the team in sacks and tackles for the season and broke team record for most sacks in a season with 22. I was named MVP for the championship game. In 2011, I was named All Marine Corp Defensive Player of the Year and was again MVP for the championship game. As a Assistant Coach, I was named Most Improved Coach in the Pop Warner league by moving the defense from #11 in the league to #2 in one season.

A typical session lasts about 60-70 minutes. I plan sessions based on the athletes needs and desires but also going back to basics to polish their skills. I will use a defensive lineman as an example. We will start with calisthenics. I used calisthenics to warm up the body, get the blood pumping. I don't like to stretch at the beginning because the limbs are cold and can cause injuries. Then I start with agility drills using an agility ladder and cones. I want to establish good footwork and good hip to feet explosiveness. Then we run some speed drills using either a sled and/or body weight resistances. Want the athlete to be able to move through anything without hindrance. Then move onto position training. So for linemen, tackling techniques, defensive rushing techniques, just to name a few. Then we will do a slow jog and then stretch it out. While stretching, this will be the athletes' opportunity to ask any question/s concerning the workout or just personal grievances. To gain trust of the athlete is my ultimate goal. We can build athletes any day with hard work and dedication but I'm looking to build better people.

My experience with Coach Kevon was so positive I recommend him to all parents looking to find that one coach they can rely on to teach their athlete the proper techniques. As a very involved parent I watched Coach Kevon closely throughout each session. He spent just enough time on warm up, speed and agility as well as D line positional training that each day flowed perfectly. Excellent detailed instruction throughout.
