I was quite literally drawn to Kenyata's creativity when I first saw her hip hop class perform at a college dance showcase in 2006. I was 32-years-old and had just decided to step out from behind a desk job to follow an unfulfilled dream of performance, if only recreationally at my age. I didn't know her name at the time, but her choreography was so different that it lit a fire under me to find her, so I sought out instructor after instructor over the next year until I finally ended up in her classroom. I had no idea that would be the beginning of an enduring friendship that would lead me to professional opportunities that I believed were out of my reach. Kenyata has always been generous with her resources and expertise and she still continues to encourage me as a dancer, singer and actress. With her guidance over the years I have found a fulfilling career as a Teaching Artist, instructing K-12 students in dance programs throughout area school districts, I have performed as a solo vocalist and actress for Troubadour Café and Velocity Circus Cabaret and I am a supporting vocalist for the band Medicine Tent. In 2011, I co-created Ignite Collaborative Arts, my own performance company.
