More About Coach Kenneth

After retiring from professional baseball, I formed my own travel ball team, known as Team X Tampa (2007-2011). Team X Tampa was ranked 10th in the nation according to Perfect Game. Team X placed 60 players in college; 10 at the professional level. Jose Fernandez being one of those players and he is currently signed with the Florida Marlins.
From 2010-2015, I served as the Assistant Coach, Hitting and Outfield Coach, and as the Recruiting Coordinator at St Petersburg College, while coaching in the Florida Collegiate Summer League during the Summers. My team, the Orlando Monarchs, made the playoffs in 2013 while I served as the head coach and they were ranked 23rd in the nation. My team, the Sanford River Rats, made it to the championship in 2014 & 2015, while winning the series in August 2015. I also had the Florida Collegiate batting champion for 2014 & 2015 and the stolen base champion in 2015. I have also done private lessons for several years.

I attended Sweetwater High School in Sweetwater, Texas, where I was a standout All-American football player. I received a full football scholarship from Texas A&M. However, I was drafted by the Minnesota Twins during the 6th round, my senior year.
After graduating from high school, I went on to play baseball professionally for 7 years and 2 years independently. I was trained under Jerry White, who was the rover, base running coach for the Twins. During my first three years of pro ball, I stole 58 bases and was only caught five times. At one point I was also known as the fastest man in the Twins Organization, running the 60 yard dash in 6.39. Throughout my career, I had 188 stolen bases and only 41 caught stealing.

Expect patience and honesty. I explain the game as they learn "Baseball IQ" knowledge. I start off by teaching basic mechanics, starting with balance, and hand-eye coordination. I do drills to strengthen the core and generate power that the player may not have known they had. I work on proper swing (keeping the barrel in the hitting zone). I will find out what type of hitter the athlete is; power, gap to gap, or situational hitter. I also work on speed, and outfield.
I have a passion to teach the game to anyone who wants to learn and is ready to put the work in.

Client Reviews

Knowledgeable and good with kiddos.

Coach Kenneth is great! My son has only had 3 sessions and we can already see the improvement. We will definitely continue training with Coach Kenneth.

A great coach really helped me get back to myself with baseball. I will highly recommend. Coach Norman really worked and understood me.!!

Coach Kenneth worked with our 12-13 year old recreational baseball team and I couldn't be happier with the service he provided. He is extremely knowledgeable and has an outstanding personality for working with the boys. I would recommend him to anyone looking for a coach.

Great ability with kids & extremely knowledgeable

Coach Kenneth worked with our twin 8 year old boys. They had a blast and learned more than they have playing multiple seasons. He has a great personality and the kids enjoyed the session.

You won't find a better hitting coach!

Coach Norman was very helpful.

Coach Kenneth was a great coach. He definitely knows his stuff I would follow up with more lessons again. My son enjoyed working with him and showed how to hit with more power. I saw results instantly.

My son is 14 years and had hit a slump with hitting, 3 sessions with Coach Kenneth and he has had a drastic improvement. Everyone is asking what we are doing different. In a recent game the ball bounce and then went over the fence. It was exciting! We will continue with Coach Kenneth!

Coach Ken was Awesome! A few small things he had my son do made a BIG difference! My son could not stop smiling while he was crushing the ball. I was very impressed with how fast he got results. If you want to hit with more power and balance, book coach Ken.

Awesome session. It was exactly what I hoped my son would experience. He cannot wait to go back. Thanks Coach!!!!

Coach Kenneth is knowledgeable and patient. He was great with our son. We were impressed with his drills and teaching technique. We are looking forward to more sessions.

Coach Kenneth was very professional and knowledgable about the game of baseball. My son had a great first lesson and is looking forward to the next one. My husband and I were impressed by his positive attitude and the way he interacted with our son, as well as his obvious experience and expertise as a coach. I would highly recommend Coach Kenneth.

Coach Kenneth was amazing. My son hadn't played in months, and he needed some help getting more power in his swing. Coach Kenneth determined his skill level and then built on it. As he went through the drills, he explained the proper technique in a way that my son could understand the why - and not just the what. After our time with Coach Kenneth, there was a noticeable improvement in my son's swing.

I have known Coach Norman for the better part of four years, both as my Associate Head Coach and previously, as the Coach of a rival team in the Florida Collegiate Summer League. I have also had the opportunity to observe Ken as the Assistant Baseball Coach at St. Petersburg College and at numerous baseball showcases and camps. I have been involved in baseball as a coach for more than four decades. The greatest compliment I can pay a coach is to ask him to be part of our staff, and after observing Coach Norman for two years this was one of the easiest calls I have ever had the pleasure of making. Coach Norman has not disappointed: He understands the game, is passionate about it, and communicates that knowledge and passion to his and our players, and the pronounced, positive impact he has on both the young men he works with and the teams he coaches is significant and obvious. I know I share the opinion of all our players over the past two years that Coach Norman is an invaluable asset in our program, and on a personal note a good friend. In my humble opinion any program that passes on Coach Norman has passed on the opportunity to improve the program both on and off the field. You will not find a better person or more qualified coach than Ken Norman. Respectfully, Ken Kelly, Head Coach & GM Sanford River Rats
