I believe that a fundamentally sound athlete outshines the rest; therefore, little victories in the gym when no one is watching create big victories when it's game time. View all coaching experience

More About Coach Katy

I helped coach an AAU team out of Ardmore before moving to Oklahoma City during the summer of 2017. This upcoming season (2020 - 2021) will be my second year as an assistant coach at Deer Creek High School - where my girls, fellow coaching staff and I made a run in the state tournament, only to be abruptly stopped by the Covid19 Virus....3 of our seniors signed to play collegiate basketball - two of which were D1.
I played five years of collegiate basketball at Oklahoma Baptist University. I have trained kids for going on six years now - the age of my kids range from first grade all the way up to seniors in high school. I have around 12 players who come consistently each week but I have a total of 28 kids I have trained up until this point. My oldest and first lesson competed in the 2A state championship game this past spring and was leading scorer and rebounder. Also, that same athlete just signed to play college basketball!

I competed at the collegiate level for five years while receiving my masters degree. During my five years, I competed in the NAIA national tournament, the Great American Conference Conference tournament and was named an all conference player, breakout athlete of the year and reached a total of 1,105 career points.

I am a firm believer in building athletes into fundamentally sound players who know how and what it takes to win. A usual session is 45 minutes to an hour. We begin with agilities (such as speed ladder, defensive slides and band work - to work on lateral movements and quick feet), after the athlete is warmed up we then move into about 10 minutes of ball handling, from there we transition into form shooting and footwork (I loved to shoot the ball during my career - therefore, shooting form and technique is really important to me) that usually takes about 15 minutes and from that point we do high intensity drills that incorporate conditioning and lots of reps - shooting, defensive slides, footwork coming off a screen, post moves, etc....At the end of each session I give the athlete "homework" which consists of one thing that I saw (that maybe they could use more work in) and their job is to work on that throughout the week before I see them next. This will encourage work outside of the session as well as help develop them into accountable and better fundamentally sound players.

Katy is an amazing coach. My daughter has had 3 sessions with her and we are already seeing improvement on shooting and ball handling. Katy focuses heavily on fundamentals at each practice. Couldn’t ask for a better private coach.

Coach Katy is amazing! She is patient with my daughter who is 9. She is excited for more lessons with Coach Katy.

We were very impressed with Coach Katy, she came into the session as if she has known us for yrs. She took her time and worked with my daughter and most of my daughter enjoyed her as a trainer. Coach Katy took the time to explain why she was doing certain drills and what or how those drills would help my daughters game. My daughter is looking forward to many more training session with Coach Katy.

Katy was very encouraging too our son during his session. I love that she focuses on fundamentals and is very knowledgeable in the sport. We are excited to continue working with her.
