More About Coach Katie

After graduating from West Chester University with a BS in Liberal Studies I proceeded to get my personal training certification from NSCA as I had I high focus in Exercise Physiology while in school. I became a general fitness personal trainer when I gained experience working with all fitness levels and ages ranging from 17 to 76. Three years ago I started my assistant coaching role for track and cross country at Bryn Mawr College where I share the responsibility with the head coach for season planning, workout prescription and keeping an eye on injury prevention. More recently I earned the NSCA Strength and Conditioning Specialist Certification which primes me to know how to develop athletes with competitive goals.

I competed in track and cross country up into my college years at West Chester University where I was a 1500m and 5000m specialist. After school I continued to compete as a self coached athlete, branching into triathlon where I raced at the pro/elite level in 2007-2009. After a few years break from competition I returned to racing in running and triathlon in 2017. Now, turning 40 this year, I reflect on over 2 decades of training and racing as I seek to achieve career high marks in long distance races such as Ironman triathlon and the marathon distance. This said, I also enjoy challenging my early career PRs in events like the mile and 5k when applying newly learned science to old habits often yields new success!

An individual's athletic background, specific goals, and general physical makeup all go into making each client I work with VERY different in how I plan and advise for them. In general, a running program includes attention to development of aerobic fitness, anaerobic fitness, injury prevention, training of the mind/ perception of effort and running economy. The tools to develop these variables include intervals/ focused sessions, resistance training, plyometrics/ drills, flexibility, and of course.... long distance running! Typically I will plan a clients training and use an interactive log to keep track of their efforts. I will meet them on location for the intervals/ focused session and/or the resistance training/ plyometrics
