More About Coach Katie

I am currently an assistant coach at Bryn Mawr College for cross country and track (where I cover the distance runner's program). In addition to that I have numerous independent clients that I train for a variety of goals ranging from general fitness to Ironman triathlon! I have experience training teenagers, seniors over 70, and everything in between.
I am a graduate of West Chester University, where as a Liberal Studies student, I placed a high concentration on Exercise Physiology. In addition I recently earned the NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Certification (CSCS). This credential pushes the typical fitness-centered personal training certification to a higher level with a focus on high performance for competitive athletes.

I was a collegiate track and cross country runner for West Chester University. Later, I became a triathlete where I raced at the pro/ elite level in 2007-2009. I went on to compete regularly as a distance runner and triathlete over the last 15 years including 5 full Ironman triathlon finishes. Still very active in training and racing going into my "masters" years, I am not showing an signs of slowing down! It is important to me to practice what I coach. I feel it makes me better able to relate and communicate with my athletes and fitness clients. When I am not coaching, find me in action training and racing! I am known for my flashy swimsuits, my "old school" yellow Aegis racing bike, and my deadly off-the-bike running speed!

Because I train such a variety of clients from those who are just gaining general fitness to those who are competing at an elite level, the sessions will look VERY different from client to client. That said, the underlying foundation is the same for everyone I work with: The goals set the direction we go in but the road we travel on is paved in injury prevention and consistency! It is easy to set goals and know what it takes to reach them, but if there is not a realistic look at the ability to remain consistent in the context of all of the variables of one's life or attention paid to preventing injury, then the battle is lost from the start. That said, I am a supporter of very efficient training. Nothing is done just to fill time. Every exercise, workout, or practice has a specific purpose.
