More About Coach Kareem
I have over 24 years of coaching experience including recreational and high school varsity. I started my coaching career in New York and have been in Georgia since 2013. I have also trained athletes in the Gwinnett County area (particularly) since 2015. I have current clients and am looking to expand. I work with all age groups through high school, and beyond if necessary. My past experiences range from 6 years old through 18 years old. I recently graduated with a master's degree in Adult Leadership/Education and have also been formally trained through mentors and schooling.
I played in New York for the Catholic Youth Organization and Junior Knicks (AAU). I stopped playing after high school and did not play on the collegiate or professional levels (but did coach through those years of my life). Although I did not play after high school, I continued to coach and train athletes which kept me active in the basketball ranks. I have not stopped coaching since 1994.
Additionally, I have refereed the sport of basketball since 2006, giving me a well-rounded perspective of the game from players, coaches, and officiating. This allows me to also teach my athletes the rules of the game, incorporating different drills to each athletes what they are allowed and now allowed to do (described briefly in the following section).
My training sessions include conditioning and basketball specific drills. I normally start my sessions with warm-up conditioning drills, then go into basketball drills. The specific basketball drills I include are ball handling (different ball handling drills- standing still and moving), shooting drills and techniques, defensive drills (including stance, posture, technique, and movement), and moving without the basketball. I also teach the athletes the different positions on the court, the diagram of the basketball court, and the rules of the game (relating to calls that are made in games by referees).
