More About Coach Juanita

I have worked as a Personal Trainer at Equinox (04/2012 to 07/2012).
Starting in Sept, the following year, I was the Girls' Basketball Assistant Coach (09/2013 to 9/2016) at Abraham Joshua Heschel High School. From there, I was a Playground Associate for the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation, 04/2015 - 02/2018). Here, I was able to run Basketball programming for ages ranging from 6 - 17 years old - through classes based on age and skill.
While working for NYC Parks, I worked part-time as a Basketball Coach at Mo’ Motion (09/2016 to 02/2018). Same as Parks, sessions were based on ages and, additionally, grade levels.
I currently work with K-4 through my current job at Success Academy doing both physical fitness and coaching the boys and girls basketball teams. On the weekends and a few weeknights, I am a High School boys' coach/girls MS coach for PeacePlayers Inc. (04/2019 - current).

I was nationally ranked my Senior year at Hunter College (2009-2010). I also broke my own rebounding record and set the current record at 25 rebounds in a single game and 388 rebounds for the season. In the same year, I was also the only person in "recent Hunter history" to record a triple-double (11 pts, 10 blocks and 20+/- rebounds) during a game against John Jay College. I was a CUNYAC Second-Team All-Star (2009 - 2010).
I was invited to participate in an Overseas camp to go professional but opted to widen my skills repertoire. I ended up playing in multiple outdoor tournaments and Nike's Tournament of Championships and All-Star events through 2010 - 2016. I've had the opportunity to play overseas but decided to stay home.

I am a conditioning, agility and technique-heavy coach.
I believe that conditioning will not only strengthen the body while increasing mental toughness; possessing the basic technique will act as the building blocks for advanced moves for later sessions. My specialty is based in post-moves (creating for oneself on offense), boxing out/rebounding, shooting form, foul shots being able to play through adversity (fouls/no call/ intensely physically games). For 1-on-1 sessions, I prefer to cater to what my client wants to focus on. That way, I can base my training around that while sharpening other tools needed to be athletically successful. have no preference, For group sessions, I focus on basics and teamwork: ball handling, passing/cutting on offense, boxing out, communication, respecting one another and having fun while working hard - to name a few. I am comfortable teaching/coaching no matter the age group.
