More About Coach Josh

I have 7 years of professional playing experience - 4 years with AAA club of the Washington Nationals Organization. My team was the Class A Carolina League Champions in 2008 and I was selected as an All-star in Class A and AA as well as in the Arizona Fall League. Before pro-ball I pitched at the The George Washington University where I was a successful student and player.

I enjoy working with athletes of all ages and skill levels. I really try to incorporate health and strength training in my coaching sessions because body awareness and condition are huge aspects of the game of baseball. I do group strength training sessions with highschool and college aged players as well as private instruction in pitching and hitting to athletes of all ages.

In each session I tend to focus on the individual and go from there. A quick 5 minute talk usually sets up the focus of the hour lesson. I always incorporate physicality in my lessons and stack strength exercises with a lot of the skill work I focus on. I like to have the player warmed up and then we usually throw a full bullpen where I like to reinforce posture, mechanics, arm angle and mental queues that are extremely important to the game of baseball - pitching especially.

- Washington Nationals Pitcher of the Month, June 2007/2008/2010
- Named to the Arizona Fall League Rising Stars team, October 2009
- Named to the Mid-season A and AA All-star Team, July 2008/2009
- Recipient of GW Presidential Academic Scholarship, 2002-2006
- Recipient of GW Varsity Athletic Scholarship, 2002-2006

I like to start with a good active warmup to get the blood pumping supplemented with some running/agility work. This is a great way to start the session and get that first sweat going into the throwing program.

I usually judge the throwing and bullpen load on where the athlete is at in his season and/or training program. A good long toss and flat ground follows and that is where mechanics, arm angle, release point and mental cues are discussed. From there, we might do some short drill sequences to offset some bad habits or bad mechanics but a full bullpen off the mound is paramount and the focus of the session.

After the throwing is over, a cool down of shoulder exercises and light resistance work is done while discussing the main points and summary of how the bullpen went. If the session includes strength work we would then go into a specifically designed program for the athlete and get after it in the gym.

Client Reviews

After one training, we knew that Coach Josh was a good fit. He was able to connect with my son in a way that was engaging and that made the session fun. We appreciate Coach Josh's technical skill and knowledge, and his ability to assess early in the session exactly in which areas my son requires adjustments. I would highly recommend Coach Josh and look forward to my son continuing to train with him.

Josh did a great job with my boys. He related to them well, was quick at his evaluations of where they were at, and had a wealth of insightful comments on how they could improve. They both raised their games several levels under Josh's direction. I highly recommend Josh to anyone looking to improve their baseball skills.

Josh has been my 13 year old son’s pitching coach for several months, and has done a fantastic job. His lessons focus not only on pitching mechanics, but also on conditioning - taking care of his arm/body. My son’s pitching and confidence have markedly improved since he started working with Josh, and he really looks forward to his weekly sessions. If you are looking for a pitching pro who is great with kids, I would highly recommend Josh.
Josh is amazing! He has been coaching my high school son for the last 2 years. With his coaching and instruction my son has improved his pitching accuracy, his mental endurance and his arm/body strength. He is now less likely to get injured and his pitching has definitely advanced to the next level. Josh does a wonderful job of teaching while making it fun. I highly recommend him.
