More About Coach Jordan

Coach Shugs has been involved in training and developing numerous athletes at various camps and clinics throughout the years. He has experience developing players of all skill levels and ages to include youth, high school and collegiate athletes. Coach Shugs spent 6 years coaching for San Diego Relentless, a youth traveling basketball program for all ages.

HIGH SCHOOL
Coach Shugs was a 2008 graduate of Millbrook High School in Winchester, VA. He served as the team captain his senior year and earned three letters in basketball, was selected for Associated Press second-team all-state, 1x first-team all-region, 2x first-team all-district, 1x second-team all-district, 1x region champion and 3x district champion. During his senior year, his team posted a 29-1 record in 2007-08 in the Virginia AA Northwestern League, winning the Group AA State Championship. His team compiled a 73-13 record in three years.
COLLEGE
While at Navy, Coach Shugs saw limited minutes his freshmen year, as he came off the benched behind a seasoned senior class. Things quickly changed his sophomore year as he finished fourth in the Patriot League in scoring (15.8 ppg) and third in rebounding (8.0 rpg). He was just one of 10 freshmen or sophomores nationally to average 15.0 ppg and 8.0 rpg. His 12.6 point per game improvement from 2009 to 2010 was the highest jump for an individual nationally that year, and the second-best improvement for a Navy player in school history (David Robinson; freshman to sophomore year). He was also named Patriot League Player of the Week twice. The following year proved to be even more successful after being named second-team All-Patriot League, ranking 3rd in the league in scoring, 7th in rebounding, 5th in steals, 2nd in three-pointers made and 3rd in minutes played. Coach finished off his Navy career ranked 14th all-time in scoring, 10th in rebounds, 5th in threes made, 15th in steals, 12th in games played and 11th in minutes played. He was also the recipient of the David Robinson Award, handed out to the player from the graduating class that contributed the most throughout their career.
POST COLLEGE
Coach Shugs would graduate from the United States Naval Academy where he would receive his commission as a Surface Warfare Officer in the United States Navy and serve honorably from 2012-2018. In 2015, he earned a spot on both the All-Navy Basketball Team and the All-Armed Forces USA Team. The All-Armed Forces USA Team would go on to win the bronze, while competing at the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) International Basketball Tournament hosted in Mons, Belgium.

Package 1: BACK 2 BASICS
This package is for athletes that are new to the game of basketball or want to recalibrate any bad habits. This package will consist of various beginner level dribbling and shooting drills with an emphasis on fundamentals.
Package 2: HANDS DOWN MAN DOWN
This package is a shooters best friend and offers a variety of different shooting drills. Good shooters can shoot off the dribble, come off screens and knock down open shots. With this package, we will progress from basic level form shooting to advanced game simulated shots. This package will also contain a segment of footwork drills.
Package 3: READ TO ACHIEVE
This package helps enhance a guard’s basketball IQ and court awareness by focusing on a player's ability to read the floor and play off of what the defense is giving them. Players will learn about spacing, moving off the ball, attacking ball screens, and reading defenders. As you improve you will learn how to read and react to defenses, and learn how to play off your teammates.
Package 4: AND ONE
This package is for athletes that want to learn how to finish at the rim. This package will help you learn and develop quick first steps moves in order to attack the rim and finish strong every time. With an emphasis on body control and positioning, ball placement, and utilizing ball fakes while incorporating footwork. We will progress from basic finishes at the rim to advanced finishes.
Package 5: JUMP OUT THE GYM
This package is for athletes trying to improve their explosiveness. This package will include various athletic drills to improve vertical leaping ability, foot speed, and mid-range jumper. Emphasis on attacking the boards and rebounding.
Package 6: ALL AROUND DEVELOPMENT
This package is for athletes trying to improve in their overall game. This package will include various drill sets to include ball handling shooting, footwork, defensive, and conditioning drills.
*Bonus Package: STUDENT OF THE GAME
This package is for athletes with a desire to be true students of the game. If you send Coach Shugs game film, he will provide coaching feedback on the do's and don'ts of your game. This is critical for players wanting to play at the next level.

Client Reviews

I was told by my grandson that he feels more confident after he had a couple of sessions. He played in the fall basketball league and his coach also notice his improvement and ask what he was doing and he told him about CoachUp. He has a couple of more sessions and I think he will continue with them with coach Jordan..

We just did our first session. Coach Jordan is great, he was very patient with my son, gave him a lot of instructions, was very concentrated on fundamental skills and details. The session is very helpful! My son got along with him very well, we are surly look forward to more sessions.
