More About Coach Jonathan

I played Division III basketball for two and a half seasons as a forward before foregoing my official basketball career to pursue a career in medicine.

During my teenage years, I spent untold hours working on my game both with private coaches and by myself, and in that time I believe I have learned not only great drills and exercises, but how best to improve an individual player through not only physical skill, but mental discipline as well. There are many great current and former basketball players out there with an interest in coaching, however it is not as easy to find someone who really knows how to teach the game of basketball. For example, while it may certainly be effective to train by having a player simply run drills or plays all practice, not as many coaches can teach players the nuances of the game that I think I can provide through my own personal experience as well as with my background in tutoring.

I would love the opportunity to work with a player of any age or skill level. My personal philosophy revolves around creating well rounded players (this means forwards and centers who can shoot and dribble, and guards who can post-up) who have the ability to adapt to the dynamic situations presented on the basketball court. As I learned the hard way in college, individual skill can only get one so far. The complete basketball player must understand the nuances of the game, which, arguably, will likely serve him or her better than any specific skill set.

A final word of advice: not sure what you need to work on? Think of that one move, shot, etc that you would never try in a game. Always work on the skills that you are uncomfortable with or are afraid of trying in a game situation.

Just a quick reminder: there is a $12 guest fee associated with the facility we would use that is not included in my hourly rate, so be aware of that when deciding to book a session.

Client Reviews

Jonathan was an excellent coach. He was able to help me a lot with my shooting form, and he gave me several drills that I can practice on my own time to improve my shooting.

Coach Jonathan is a great coach. Now I also do track and field and wrestling. I will come back to you for more basketball training. Thanks.

I am a starting Junior Center in a rebuilding D3 basketball program. I started as a Freshman and have gone on to be selected to all conference team. Bottom line, I have a target on my back regarding the other teams in conference.
I left college with my coach’s weight lifting, conditioning programs and agreed upon areas of improvements. I knew to continue my success and make greater contributions to my team that I had to return to the hardwood with enhanced skills, new skills and different moves.
It is difficult to find a coach who has the expertise to coach post players. However, with perseverance, I found Coach Jonathan.
Upon meeting and working with him, I knew, shortly, that he was the right coach to achieve the aforementioned objections for myself and coach.
Coach Jonathan is the type of coach you go to take your game to the next level, similar to what the pros do. Having been a player, coach and overall student of the game, his focus is on refining existing skills and teaching new skills in an extremely detailed manner. He achieves this by focusing on the mechanics of the individual and team skills. For example, he knows and understands all of the individual components of shooting, rebounding, post moves, dribbling etc. Being a seasoned player and coach, he has the laser sharp ability to quickly hone in on individual components of the skill(s) requiring improvement and this becomes a part of his training plan. As an example, after one session, my percentage of shots made was greatly improved.
Coach Jonathan is the type of coach for players who are serious about exhibiting excellence in their game. A player who is dedicated to improving himself and his team, who is willing to put in the work. He expects and demands excellence and strives to train you to be the best that you can be.

Jonathan is a pretty good coach. He knows a lot about basketball, and he can find out some problems that you never noticed before. I feel the improvement after I trained with him.

Great first lesson! Showed me the problems with my shooting mechanics and then helped me fix them through some shooting exercises. I would definitely recommend him to anyone who wants to improve their fundamentals.

Jonathan is a great coach. He has many years of experience playing basketball at the collegiate level. He knows the time and effort that goes into becoming a better player. He himself has studied and analyzed the game on his own. I have learned from him that basketball is a game of nuances. A slight shift in your footing can make all of the difference. While focused on the many details, he is able to tie them all together so the student can see the big picture. His personal study of the game also allows him to explain seemingly complicated processes into easy-to-understand steps. I highly recommend him to players of all ages and skill levels. Thank you Jonathan for taking my game to the next level!
