More About Coach John

I have coached baseball players at almost all levels from little league to college. I have managed little league teams in Simi Valley CA, ages 8-12, and I have been a baseball camp counselor for ages ranging from 5-13 at UCLA baseball youth camp. I myself played through college and semi-professional ball, and after my playing years were up I became an assistant coach as well as strength and conditioning coach for Harris Stowe State University, helping the college baseball players reach they're top level of play. I specialize in pitching, as I was an award winning pitcher in highschool and college. I won pitcher of the year my freshmen year of highschool at Chaminade College Preparatory, and helped assist the team to become #3 in the nation up to my my junior year. In college I won the scholar athlete award, as well as the 1st team all conference award for the American Midwest conference. I played Semi-professional baseball with the Fulton Kentucky Railroaders and won the championship for the K.I.T (Kentucky, Illinois, Tennessee) league in 2007. I have a love and deep appreciation for the game, and want to share my expertise and knowledge with those I teach. Since playing I became a personal trainer specializing in athletic performance training as well as strength and conditioning. I have an extensive background in coaching kids, teenagers and all baseball players, with a specialty in pitching to raise they're overall level of play by working on mechanics, form, increasing performance and various training techniques and drills.

As previously stated I have won Pitcher of the year my freshmen year of highschool, scholar/athlete award my sophomore year in college, pitcher of the week 2 weeks in a row for the AMC (American Midwest Conference) and 1st team all conference my senior year for the AMC. I played semi-professional baseball as a pitcher for the Fulton Railroaders and assisted in winning the championship for the KIT league in 2007. I have competed all over the mainland including California, Nevada and the midwest from Missouri, Kansas, Illinois, and Tennessee all the way down to Texas. After my playing years I was proud to be invited to coach at the college level as a strength and conditioning coach and assistant coach for Harris Stowe State University in St. Louis, MO. I have been a certified personal fitness trainer specializing in athletic performance training to ensure the peak performance and progression of each client I train.

A client working with me, typically in the position of Pitcher, although I can coach all positions, can expect to start from the basics of mechanics, form, release point and general techniques to make sure they have a solid foundation for their position. I use specific drills and techniques from performance based coaching like stretching, plyometrics and active warm ups, to more baseball specific drills involving throwing, release point, grip and finger movement and motion drills specific to your body and throwing technique. I pinpoint where the client needs the most help, build on their strengths while focusing on ways to improve their weaknesses. I try to use a fully integrative approach, and baseball and pitching is all about mentality, so that is an important aspect to my coaching as well.
You may expect within our one hour session to learn proper stretching and warm up techniques, mechanics and form analysis, grip and different throwing styles (pitchers), how to optimize power and stamina, and to of course have fun while doing it all. After all, Baseball is a game, and if you don’t love it or aren’t having fun, then that’s also something we’ll have to work on!
