More About Coach John

I have a great deal of experience coaching and training athletes. I have experience with my own business JQ Basketball Training LLC, training athletes in camps during the summer, as well as doing individual/group sessions back at school. I have also trained different High School and AAU Basketball teams within the past few years. I have experience working with players (boys and girls), grades 1-12. I typically work with players in the middle school/ High school ages, but also have a good deal of experience working with players in the lower level grades. I do not currently have any industry certification, but I am currently looking to get my personal training certificate.

I have played basketball and soccer all my life. I am currently a collegiate basketball player at Bethel College in Kansas. I was a three-year letter winner at Evergreen HS in basketball, captain my senior year. I was an all-conference player in High School, and was the MVP of my team my senior year. In soccer, I was a four-year letter winner and a captain my junior and senior year. I played AAU basketball for First Step elite in Portland Oregon, where we travelled the country and played many tournaments throughout High School. I also went to a few different camps and received write-ups for my performance as a standout.

I will typically run a session that's pretty general the first time to get a feel for the client and what they need to work on. Once that is out of the way, I will Taylor every session to the player and what they need to work on. I will start with a workout that will consist of a warm-up, ball-handling for a half hour, then shooting/offensive work for the other half hour. This hour session will give me an idea of what the player's strengths and weaknesses are, which will become the focus of the sessions following. If the player is struggling with finishing with their weak hand, I will focus on their weak hand for a section of a session following. Finally, I will give the player drills that they can work on outside of the personal training sessions. I know that personal training is something that should be done two-three times a week at the most, so practicing outside of these sessions is crucial to the success of a player.
