More About Coach Jocelynn

I currently work as a track and field coach for middle school students for a school in the San Francisco Unified District. I have a current Adult/Child/Infant CPR, Basic First Aid, and AED certificate. I am a hearing coach who speaks English fluently yet I can also hold sessions in American Sign Language; if your child uses ASL to communicate, I would be happy to work with them as well.

I have always been into staying active and physically fit. I exercise at least five days per week and I constantly think of ways to challenge myself to improve my endurance and flexibility. When I was in school, I completed courses to better understand the human body and how to take care of it including: Anatomy & Physiology I & II, Nutrition, Psychology, and Lifespan Development.

During a typical session, we would start with warm ups that would involve some running and basic aerobic exercises such as jumping jacks and bell hops/ski jumps. The last part of the warm-up will be runner-focused stretches. Once the warm-ups are complete there will be a quick break for hydration (as needed). After the warm-up and quick hydration break, we will get into the core of the session. My focus for track and field coaching are the running events (sprints, middle distance, and long distance) so the core of the session will be working to improve your time for the distance that you run. The first session will give us a base time that you'll work to improve upon during your following sessions. In addition to doing running, I will be coaching my clients on ways to build themselves up mentally and how to mentally recover from making mistakes or not meeting your performance goal. I believe that resilience is a key component to performing at your best because if you are beating yourself up for previous errors, it's taking away from the positive mental energy that you need to do your best for upcoming runs. I'm always ready to give high fives to keep you motivated and offer feedback so you can make improvements. I'm known to crack corny jokes here and there to keep things entertaining but I'm serious about helping you to improve yourself as an athlete; there's a nice balance of fun and work. I know that running times aren't improved overnight so I'll set goals for you to gradually improve your time. Depending on the number of sessions we have per week, some sessions would focus on building muscle strength especially the leg muscles. If we only do one lesson per week, I'll provide you with exercises that you can do at home or at the gym so our once-per-week sessions will focus on running.
