More About Coach Jeff

I have coached lacrosse for 5 years ranging from over night summer camps to Varsity Women’s Head coach. As varsity head coach my time was spent working to start the first year program, with a roster full of first time players my time was spent focusing on and developing the basic core fundamentals of the game and various positions. Prior to become the head coach I had also served as a volunteer goalie and defensive coach to my former high school team with the focus on communication and defensive strategies. In the fall season I had also spent 2 years as a volunteer varsity and JV assistant coach on my high schools water polo team, running practices and assuming head coaching duties in the absence of the head coach.

My playing career spans almost 20 years from being a 3 year varsity starter and 2 time captain as a goalie and midfielder in High School. In College I played at the MCLA level for Oregon State University as goalie prior to injuries cutting my playing career short and starting my coaching career. I resumed playing a few years afterwards for a post collegiate men's club team in Portland and continue to play for a club team based out of Culver City now. I also have experience playing competitive box/indoor lacrosse as a goalie and runner.

Sessions will consist of basic cardio warmup and stretches followed by in goal warm up. Next we would move to more advanced drills focusing on hand eye coordination, foot work and reaction time while keeping the core fundamentals, such as stepping to the ball, hand-eye coordination, and "seeing" the ball all the way into the stick. Drills would include, quick reaction saves, body positioning work, making saves with just a stick shaft, "blind" saves shooting over the goalies shoulder on a wall, quick turn saves and more. The ending would be dedicated shooting work, from low angle play to standard outside shooting work. This time will be to put the skills learned in each session to practice. Other drills to focus on as needed by the player would include such areas as; ball handling, clearing, passing and general fitness such as sprint interval training. The goal is to create a goalie who is balanced and well rounded on all facets of the game.
