More About Coach J.R.

I have been coaching youth and high school aged athletes for the past 5 years. Most of my experience comes from coaching at Bitter Lacrosse, a sleep away lacrosse camp in Stowe, VT. Serving as the assistant director for the camp, my responsibilities include planning the day-to-day skill sessions, skill progressions, and drills. In addition to Bitter Lacrosse, this past year (2017-2018) I served as the defensive coordinator for top ranked Culver Academy. While at Culver, in the winter I devised daily strength and conditioning sessions and stick work routines. In the spring, I helped develop team practice plans. I recently transitioned from Culver Academy to Brunswick School where I am teaching and coaching.

My highest level of competition was Division I at the University of Richmond ('17) where I played close defense. Before Richmond, I played at Deerfield Academy and captained the team my senior year.

Regardless of position, each session starts with footwork. After footwork comes stick work, which is tailored to position when necessary. For offensive players, we then transition into dodging, shooting on the run, ground balls to shot, stationary shooting, inside finishing, and feeding. For defensive players, we transition to body positioning, stick checks, ground balls, carrying the ball with pressure, and end with shooting.
