More About Coach Horace

I have been coaching youth basketball for 8 years. I have coached players from the age of 5 and all the way up to the collegiate level. I began my coaching career at B3ST Sports Training, a sports training company based out in Covina, CA. I was the assistant coach of B3ST Sports Training U15, U16, and U17 AAU basketball teams. In Vietnam, I was also running basketball clinics for the elementary and middle schools with the Da Nang Dragons in the VBA season. Also, running basketball clinics for kids 7-13 in Saigon at International schools in the city with the Saigon Heat in the ABL season. I am the founder of Nothing Is Given Hoops, a Youth Basketball Program that offers individual skill development, group skills training, travel ball teams, and camps/clinics. Lastly, I am a LA Clippers Youth Basketball Coach where I work with them directly at their clinics and camps around Southern California.

I began playing my collegiate career at Cypress College, a California JUCO that belongs in the CCCAA. After playing my freshmen season at Cypress College, I transferred to Bristol University a small private NAIA program. I finished my last three years playing at Bristol University. Even though being a small NAIA school, I was able to compete against many Division 1 schools such as; UC Irvine, Weber State, University of Wyoming, Fresno State, Cal State Bakersfield and Sacramento State.

I am one of the first Vietnamese-Americans in history to be playing overseas professional basketball in Vietnam. I am on going my fifth season of professional basketball. I currently play for the Da Nang Dragons in the Vietnam Basketball Association (VBA) for the past 4 seasons. I won a championship in 2016 with the Da Nang Dragons in my rookie season. I have also played for the Saigon Heat in the ABL for 2 seasons, the Asean Basketball League, the premier Southeast Asia's professional basketball league. I will be continuing my professional career in Vietnam playing for the same teams respectively. I have also competed for the Vietnam Men's National Team at the 29th and 30th Southeast Asian Games in 2017and 2019. In 2019, I was a member of the first team in Vietnam Men's 5x5 Basketball Team to bring home a Bronze Medal the country at the 30th Southeast Asian Games!

I use basic fundamentals techniques to improve player shooting, ball-handling, footwork, passing and defense. I believe that mastering the basic fundamentals for my players will prepare them to be able to play at any level. Whether what level my players will be I will be able to design workouts that will cater to there individual skill set. I want to be able to get my players better through their physical abilities but also their mental toughness. I love the process of building every player into being a fundamentally sound and smart basketball player. The training session will be high intensity with innovative and cognitive techniques while mentally challenging for my players.

Great tips and drills as always!

Coach Horace was a great coach. After one session my son learned a lot about ball handling skills and shooting. I especially liked how he made the hour long session fun and kept my son's interest.
