More About Coach Erica

I have experience as a high school softball assistant coach as a travel coach for a 10U developmental/instructional team. I have been coaching/instructing softball players for over year and a half now. I have experience coaching/instructing from ages 8-17 years old. Within that age range I have instructed girls that are just learning to play softball to players that are getting ready to go to compete at the college level. I instruct anywhere in the South Jersey area. My passion and love for the game drives me to teach the fundamentals and train athletes into becoming a better person on and off the field.

I competed at the Division 1 collegiate level for La Salle University. At La Salle I was named captain of the softball team for my last 2 seasons.

A typical session includes learning the basic mechanics and fundamentals on throwing, hitting, and fielding (primarily infield). Depending on what the client wants to work on I will break each topic down completely. Learning the basic mechanics of throwing I believe is very important. Having good proper mechanics helps with accuracy, arm strength, as well as injury prevention.

A typical hitting session with me involves breaking down the swing completely (feet, hips, elbows, wrists, hands, etc). Depending on the level of my client determines how advanced my lessons are. As well as hitting mechanics I also focus on how to hit each pitch, pitch selection, mental approach to the plate, situational hitting, etc.

My fielding philosophy when it comes to teaching fielding is staying low, on balls of your feet, seeing the ball all the way in glove, and quick feet. I begin by teaching the basic mechanics of fielding a ball and then build from there. I include the glove work and foot work of back hands, forehands, angels to the ball, and how to evaluate and know the game situation before each pitch.
