More About Coach Ela

I've managed youth teams; staffed camps and conducted private lessons in both Chapel Hill (NC) and Westwood (MA). I recently graduated from the University of North Carolina as a student athlete competing at the highest level (division I). I've worked summer and winter camps at UNC where I've coached teams of girls from ages 8-18. I've also given one on one private lessons for girls at the middle school and high school level who are looking to play in college.

I'd start off the session with a little stretching and then get right into stick work. As an attacker, I think stick work is key and it is what will make young players stand out most at recruiting tournaments. Afterwards I would explain a basic "split dodge" from the 12 meter line. We would run through a few of those with cones placed where the player will dodge from. I'll add on some agility work and ladders to that drill after the player gets a few reps. Since I primarily play behind the net I would place the cones behind the cage to set up a dodge from the crease. I'd go through it myself a few times as a visual. Lastly, I would finish with power shots and placement shots.

Those are pretty much the drills I personally do as I prepare for the upcoming season. I really emphasize and work a lot on my wrist strength and stick work as I mentioned above. If need be, I could go through some fitness activities as well at the beginning or end of the session (depending on the level and needs of the client). Specifically some tempo runs (100 meters, 50 meters, 100 meters, 200 meters X3)
