I am an experienced youth basketball coach as well as referee (ages 8-18). I have experience leading college students through workouts at BU's fitness recreation center. I have also worked as a basketball camp counselor at my high school for several years during the summer. I am most comfortable with middle school to high school aged kids but willing to work with all ages!

I walked-on to the Boston University basketball team after my freshman year of school. I played the next 2 years there before making the tough decision to go abroad my senior year. I did not get much playing time in games in those 2 years, but unlike many walk-ons, I got to regularly play substantial roles in practice - most of the time being tasked with defending starting point guard Maurice Watson (who later transferred to Creighton and now plays professionally overseas). I was also on our conference all-academic team both of those years. While studying abroad I played semi-pro basketball in Ireland and got to experience playing against full-grown men for the first time in my career. I continue to play competitively today, active in the in the New York Urban Professional league. I also lift daily and I am in nearly as good of shape now as I was in college.

Ideally I will be working with athletes looking to develop guard skills. My first session with a client I will ask what his/her specific goal is - do they want to make their varsity team? Average 20 points a game? Play college basketball? I think it's important to know why you are working out and have a vision to keep you going.

I will put the athlete through a brief set of beginner drills to assess their talent level. After that, I will put him or her through drills that I have been taught or created myself depending on their skill, speed, and determination.

My focus depends on first mastering the fundamentals, then working to increase speed with each repetition. I also make sure to include conditioning in drills because if you are not able to do things properly when you are tired, you will not execute them in a real game.

Depending on the athlete, a game of 1v1 with myself could be beneficial to inplement new moves into game action. I believe that playing small games, either 1v1 or 2v2 is the quickest way to get better as a player - the more often you have the ball in your hands and have to make game-speed decisions, the better.
