Demetrie McCray

Experience, leadership, and professional integrity are the fundamentals that I bring along with an impeccable work ethic and sincere interest in developing young people. I have 11 years of coaching experience, 3 at the high school level and 8 at the college level. I have achieved a great deal of success with student athletes on the field and have had the privilege of perfecting my craft under the guidance of tremendous head coaches. My most recent coaching experience has been at Benedict College where we moved a team from winless to playing for a conference championship. As a Defensive Backs Coach, I have profoundly ushered athletes to peak performance. During my 5 years at Benedict College the past 4 I've had an All-Conference selection and an All-American. In addition, three players have been selected ton the FCS Senior Bowl in one in 2017 and two in 2019.

College - I attended Albany State University from 2001-2005, during my time there we won 3 Conference Championships 2003-2005 and HBCU National Champs 2003 & 2004. In 2003 and 2005 I was a 1st Team All-Conference selection and voted the team's best defensive back. I led the team in interceptions in 2003, 04, 05; school's career leader in interceptions (15). In addition, I finished 5th in the nation in passes defended in 2004 and was the team captain in 2005.

Professional - I played 7 years of arena football in (Cincinnati, Ohio; Austin, Texas; Albany, Georgia; Rome, Georgia). I was an All Arena selection in 2008, 2010, and 2011; and also won an Arena League Championship in 2011. Led team in interceptions in 2008-2011 and was also the team captain 2008-2014.

I'm big on technique and fundamentals so I put emphasis on the small things so I will talk and teach in between drills . I will focus on defensive back drills that coincides with what a player actually does in the game. We will stretch and get a good warm up in before we begin. Stance and backpedaling will be the 1st thing I focus on, those 2 things are the base of every defensive back. Once the athlete is comfortable with those 2 things we will gradually move on to the next phase which will be footwork, hips, and reaction drills. I will NOT move to another drill until the athlete is doing well in the specific drill we are working on. After each session I will have a Q & A with the athlete about football, recruiting process etc.
