More About Coach Darvin

I am a certified ISSA Master Fitness Trainer, with specializations in Strength & Conditioning, Nutrition and Transformation, just to name a few. I am also TRX-certified, and Penalty Box certified ( a modality I use a lot to develop speed and agility). I have been a personal trainer for well over 5+ years, and have personally been in and around the weight room for over 25 years. I have learned the nuances of how to train others physically and mentally from training soldiers while I was in the U.S. Army, where I am a combat veteran with 8 years of service. I have learned that the skill to train soldiers translates well to the sports arena ( as long as we remember we are not training for breaching buildings in Baghdad! LOL). I am an avid lover and student of training and love the opportunity to help others develop and excel in their chosen sport and achieve the highest possible level of fitness. I typically work with athletes age 13+ all the way up to adults, who play any sport ( football, basketball, baseball, softball, etc.).

Growing up, although I loved the game of basketball and it grew on me over time, I was introduced to baseball first, and I started with teeball at age 4. I won several accolades as a baseball player, and participated in several summer leagues in basketball as a teenager. Due to my personal situation in my household in high school, I did not have the opportunity to participate in high school basketball. It is something that I always wish I had the opportunity to experience, and part of why I am now a trainer- to help those have what I didn't have access to, and give to those who want a future in their chosen game, a chance.

There is nothing 'typical' with my workouts. I believe in the use of different modalities, atypical routines, and other ways of training that I believe removes monotony in training, pushes and constantly challenges athletes, and keeps them guessing and always on their toes. A sample session might include a warm-up ( upper and lower body activation) and flexibility development, followed by resistance work, then right into cardio/jump rope program, and close out with cool-down ( which is a very overlooked portion of recovery). One day we might use TRX as our primary means of resistance work, the next session might involve kettlebells. Either way, know that you will not always know what to expect ( and that can be a good thing!)
