More About Coach Dalyn

I have been working with athletes for the past 7 years. I have worked one on one to help develop their skills I personal lessons. I have coached middle schoolers at Roland-Story Middle school and at Ellsworth Community College in Iowa. These coaching experiences have helped me to learn that not all athletes are the same and what works for one may not work for the other. I work with ages 7 to college and make sure their sessions/practices are built to help athletes at each age understand and learn.

I was a 4 year varsity starter in high school. Where I was named second team all league my freshman and sophomore year. I was also named 1st team all league my junior an senior year. After high school I continued playing at Iowa State University. At Iowa State I learned that I needed to push myself harder to earn a starting role. I was able to work hard and earn a starting position at 3rd base.

A typical session will focus on one skill that we are trying to develop. For hitting lessons we will work on hand speed, balance, top hand, bottom hand, swinging through the ball, and timing. For fielding lessons we will focus on agility, foot work, moving to and through the ball.

Client Reviews

The skills my daughter has learned from Dalyn have been invaluable. From both watching and participating in the instruction I can attest to her strength of character, compassion for others, and knowledge of the sport of softball. A few years ago, I was talking with our community’s Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation about my daughter (Peyton) and the struggles she was having with softball. She was not listening to her coaches and week after week the issues were worsening. She connected me with Dalyn, who was giving personal lessons on batting, throwing, and general game knowledge. What impressed me about Dalyn’s coaching style was that it wasn’t yelling and screaming, or trying to embarrass Peyton into corrective behavior, it was about building trust and a relationship with her. She shared her story of failures and successes with Peyton. This encouraged Peyton to try harder and practice more before the next lesson. The way that Dalyn spoke to Peyton, whether it was about softball or outside issues going on, helped her confidence grow. As a parent you tell your kids they are amazing, but when a coach takes the time to make a child feel important, helps them set goals, and tell them it doesn’t matter what is on the outside it is what is on the inside that important, that is priceless. Peyton is 14 and in 9th grade now, she just played her first game last week in her high school league. Every once in a while, we see that some of her old habits peak out and we just say, “What would Dalyn say” and she smiles.
