More About Coach Connor

I have assisted in directing the UIC winter baseball camps for the last 4 years now (pitching components). In addition to organizing these events, I am also an active coach at said camps. I have also coached at numerous baseball camps which have been held at my high school. I have coached athletes from ages 6-18, but I have more experience with athletes ages 12-18. This past summer, I became a pitching coordinator at B.I.G. Baseball academy where I work on player development.

I played my high school baseball at Lockport Township high school in Lockport, IL. I helped my team advance to a super sectional during my last year there in 2013. While there, I was a two-year letter winner and in 2013 I posted an ERA of 1.58 with 34 strikeouts in 26.2 innings of work.
From there, I attended Prairie State Community College. During my only season there, I was elected All-Conference in the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference and All-Region with the Pioneers. I tallied a record of 8-4 with three saves and a 2.05 ERA, while striking out 69 in 57 innings pitched.
From there, I went on to play at UIC for three years. In 2016 I was among league leaders in ERA (3.78) and opponent batting average (.253). In 2017 I appeared only out of the bullpen for the Flames. I posted a 3.10 ERA and 17 of my 22 outings were scoreless. I lead the team in strikeout-to-walk ratio and was selected as the Horizon League Pitcher of the Week 3 times. In June of 2017 I was selected in the 8th round of the MLB draft by the Cincinnati Reds. I was the highest selected player from UIC since Curtis Granderson.

This is difficult for me to answer. I believe that I need to communicate with the player that I am working with in order to get a better understanding of what they would like to accomplish. Baseball is an extremely personalized sport, I need to base my lessons off of the player that I am working with and what they need as an individual. But all workouts will include a dynamic warm up and detailed instruction. I would also like to introduce pitching philosophies and tips which have worked for me.

We had an initial session for my 8 year old son with Coach Connor and it was excellent. Connor was on-time, well-prepared and courteous. He had a solid plan for the lesson ahead of time, but was able to adjust time spent on certain game aspects and his approach based on our preferences and the flow of the session. Would recommend him to younger kids who have some experience and wish to take their skills to the next level. Looking forward to future sessions with Connor.
