More About Coach Cody

I have coached athletes from Professional prep and NCAA Division 1 to high school and junior high, in sports ranging from track, football, baseball, volleyball, soccer, and lacrosse. I am certified in Strength and Conditioning by the US Track and Field Coaches Association, and have a passion for all things related to coaching. My career started in Santa Barbara, CA at Fueled Sports Performance, where I was a personal coach for many athletes of various disciplines. In my last year of college, I have worked for Grand Canyon University, assisting in their athletic performance programs. Following this, I was an intern with Altis, an elite track & field training and coaching education organization. Currently I coach at Santa Barbara City College as the First Assistant, as well as through my online business at athletex.us

I had success on the Division 1 NCAA level in Track as a sprinter, and continue to train toward my own sprinting goals. I was first team All-WAC, 2014 4x100m champion, and took 3rd place in the 2014 open 100m.

My sessions will vary depending upon the individual athlete's needs. For beginner athletes, rudimentary form drills and runs will help develop proprioception and an understanding of the body. Intermediate athletes will generally require lots of speed and strength work, with some focus on technique. Advanced athletes, while still needing strength and speed, will likely benefit from additional means including advanced recovery methods, body work, injury prevention, etc. A typical track/field session may include a thorough warmup, speed work, technique drills, multi-jump work, multi-throws work, and mobility work. In the weight room, the focus would be around generating explosive capabilities in athletes through various means.

Client Reviews

Coach Cody was a great coach. I was looking to improve my takeoffs from blocks and in one session he helped me tremendously. The techniques he taught me in takeoff and striding definitely helped me to win 3 gold medals in the sprints for my age group in the recent Arizona Senior Olympics.

I have been working with Cody for the last 2 years. Coming off of many injuries, Cody has been able to bring me back to performing at my best and beating many of my previous records! I cannot say enough about how helpful, insightful, and effective his coaching has been. You are in good hands with Cody!
In one season of training with Cody, I dropped my time from 11.8 to 11.1 automatic timing. His ability to help teach me to move properly and be mentally focused was huge for me. Cody is a great coach!
