More About Coach Carly

I have played basketball since I was in second grade and at a young age I dreamed of someday becoming the first female head NBA coach. Although my dreams and aspirations may have changed (I'm not trying to coach professionals anymore), I have never lost my love for the game or the ability to help others improve theirs. I have experience coaching a wide variety of ages. I have coached my high school JV team multiple summers as well as helped with AAU summer league teams. I have also helped at a variety of developmental camps but primarily elementary to middle school age. I feel I am a strong motivator while still be able to give feedback and direction to my players.

I attended high school in Wisconsin where I was named Varsity All Conference Player two years in a row. My team also won Conference Champions my Junior year. Senior year I was captain of my team and second leading scorer (game high 25 points). I also held one of the highest free throw percentages in the conference (80 percent). I ended up attending Appalachian State where I walked on to their Division1 Women's Basketball team as a freshmen. After some time at the Division 1 level, I decided to leave the team and ended up playing Club Basketball where I was President and Captain.

My clients can expect to focus on fundamentals, shooting, and defense in our sessions. They will also leave feeling like they a got a good work out in because I'm a firm believer that conditioning is essential to success in games. A session will begin with some dynamic stretching to get loosened up. We will then do some dribbling drills (dribbling through cones, two ball dribbling exercises, dribbling with a defender). Next our session with focus on shooting form and getting a lot of different shots in. I believe that taking and making a lot of shots in our sessions is very important because it creates muscle memory that will transfer into games. Good shooters aren't fazed by high pressure game time situations because their shot is so automatic/natural. Lastly, towards the end of the session we will work on defense. I like to make defense towards the end of sessions because in games you may be tired but defense is what wins games. I feel that it's important to practice like you play so I want my players to practice fighting through tiredness. Lastly, we will end with some static stretching to prevent tightness of muscles/injury.
