More About Coach Carissa
I typically like to work with age groups between 7-17! I have worked clinics every summer for my hometown lacrosse team for all ages. I also personally trained an 13 year old and got her ready for high school level play. I am First aid and CPR certified.
I started playing when I was in fourth grade! I was part of the first ever middle school team in my hometown as well as the first team to make playoffs my junior year of high school. Throughout high school I played on the school team as well as travel lacrosse competing in different tournaments in search of playing in college. I then competed at the collegiate level at SUNY New Paltz as a midfielder. I was named captain my junior year and continued that position through the end of my senior year. I was named team MVP two years in a row, I earned third team All-SUNYAC and second team All-SUNYAC twice. I also achieved SUNYAC commissioner's list and all-academic team member.
Warming up is always the most important. I will have the athlete/s warm up and do dynamic stretching first. Then I will have them warm their stick up quickly to get the best out of the session. At the beginning of each session I'll ask what their goals are and what they want to work on. From there I would create drills that will benefit them the most. If they need to work on stick work I will find different approaches for them to practice that are fun. If they need to work on defense I will have a variety of drills planned out. If an approach I am taking to teaching them a specific technique isn't working, I will do more research and come up with a different plan! I will definitely give them activities to practice before the next training sessions. I also intend on keeping track of their improvements. I can set up measurable goals for them to work towards and we can do small competitions to reach these goals without too much pressure!
