More About Coach Brien

While in Arizona, I spent one year as the head coach of a Freshman boy's high school basketball team. In addition, I was assistant coach for both JV and Varsity boy's high school basketball. During the AAU or club season, I coached multiple boys and girls basketball teams for more than five years. I trained basketball athletes as part of an organization committed to preparing youth for elite-level competition. I trained athletes typically from middle school through adults. Boys and girls as young as middle school who trained with me have gone on to play college basketball at all levels. Some of the athletes I trained in Arizona are also playing professionally in Europe. Additionally, two girls I trained in Arizona played in this year's NCAA tournament.

Once I relocated to Maryland, I partnered with a trainer and continued working with young basketball athletes - high school, college, and professional. I provided training for over three years to young men and women who have gone on to play Division 1 college basketball across the country. Female members of a Russian professional basketball team came to train with me and my partner for ten days to prepare for their upcoming season.

I am looking forward to working with the talent here in the area !

I played high school basketball at Northeastern High School in Elizabeth City, NC. Because of my height and skills, I played all positions and played Varsity all three years. I received a scholarship and played basketball for Chowan College in Murfreesboro, NC. I played all positions in college. An injury ended my college basketball career after two years, however I continued to play in multiple basketball leagues through age 50. Physical fitness continues to be a part of my daily life.

First, always warm up. Next, ball handling drills. Then, position drills. Once all drills are understood, all drills are then performed at game speed. Every training session will be about making the person a basketball player first, and a position player second.

For example, if a person wants training to play the center position, this is what a training session might look like:

Warm ups - stretching, jogging, etc.
Ball handling drills - behind the back dribbling, cone drills, line drills, etc.
Foot work
Post defense
Post offense
Rebounding
Learning about offensive and defensive angles
Passing to the post
Boxing out
Shooting drills
Cool down - stretching

Coach Brien was excellent with my two boys, 5 and 7 years old. He has patience while teaching them new and difficult skills.

My son loved his coaching style. Within the first session itself he felt so comfortable with Mr Brien and signed up for Additional sessions. So happy that we found Mr Brien

Great first session!

Coach Brien was amazing. He understood the troubles I was having with ball handling and shooting, and took the time to break things down to the basics. Coach pushed me at the right times to get certain things done right, but he was patient and understanding of my little experience in basketball. He really helped me and taught me lots of good drills to work on at home as well. The main thing I’ll re-emphasize is how he really took the time to get to know about my skills and what needed to be worked on, and was helpful at breaking down those things, and being patient when I struggled to understand them, and helping me get the right mentality to build these skills and keep trying. Coach was amazing and I’d definitely recommend him to a player of any skill level. He was good with me (a beginner) but I also know he does very well with much more experienced players. I will definitely be booking coach again, and continue to work on these things!

Coach Brien is very knowledgeable in the fundamentals of basketball. My two boys enjoyed their session and want more

I really enjoyed my first session with Coach Armstrong. Very professional and knowledgeable of the sport. By the end of the hour I had already noticed a huge improvement in my ability to shoot and dribble. I think he’d make a great coach for anyone serious about learning the fundamentals, or just wanting to get back in the game like myself.

Thumbs up!

Coach Brien was outstanding with my son - I was thoroughly pleased with everything he did! Coach Brian knows the game of basketball and pays attention to even the smallest detail/s with respect to footwork and touch. I was very impressed that he took the time to explain every detail. Coach Brien is a stand-up gentleman and I highly recommend him!

Coach Brian had his first session today with my grandson. He quickly identified the techniques My grandson needed to focus on for making the transition from middle school to high school. He and I both felt the session was really worthwhile, and are going to schedule more sessions.

It is now the end of summer and school has started. My grandson had sessions all summer with Coach Brien. I periodically asked him if he was continuing to learn from Coach Brien. I would get at least 5 minutes of talk and demonstration and a firm yes. It has been a great experience for my grandson to get one on one coaching from someone who knows how to motivate a 14 year old to aim high (pun there). I highly recommend Coach Brien.

Our experience with Coach Armstrong was great! From just the first session my son came home teaching me all the things he learned and how many things coach put into perspective for him. Very knowledgeable and patient! Highly recommend!

Coach Brien was a great coach! And I am looking forward to more sessions to improve as an athlete.

My son really like him said he learned a lot. He worked on everything I asked.

Today was my first session with Coach Brien. He’s a great coach ! I felt comfortable with him from the start , He was really fun and polite and encouraged me to keep trying. I’m definitely booking more sessions !

Coach Brien was great with my son. He was very informative and knowledgeable. He took the time to explain things and make sure my son understood what he was saying. We would definitely recommend Coach Brien!

Brien has a whole lot of experience and a high level of knowledge of how to play the game of basketball. He is a great coach for helping you improve your ball handling skills, game shooting and footwork. A lot of the ball handling drills he uses are game speed moves and counter moves which can then be directly applied to a game. This makes the sessions perfect for anyone trying to sharpen their skill set whilst becoming an efficient scorer. 5 Stars!

Brien won the kids, my son and his two friends, over immediately. They were genuinely interested in learning fundamentals and hung on every word. Looking forward to working with him on mor developed plans for the kids.

Coach Brien is the coach I always want to have. Just the first session with him and he show me all I want to learn. Especially the fundamental stuff on the court. How should I read the game,How should I adjust my body and how should I face some different situation in the games. It just help me a lot of understanding this sport. I can't wait to have more session with him🔥

Coach Brien is so patient! He's very knowledgeable about the game and he explains things in an easy-to-understand way. Coach Brien really cares about elevating your game! He's a great guy to work with.

Coach Brien is truly a great coach. When I stared playing club basketball in 5th grade he was one of my first trainers and really made me feel welcome. Out of all the trainers that I have had, he has definitely been the best one. He helped me improve on so many levels because he understands the game. I knew he wasn't there just to get paid, he truly cares about his players and hopes the best for them in their basketball careers. It's been three years since Brien moved away and I am now a junior in high school. We still keep in contact and he constantly asks me about my game and how I am doing. Great coach, sad I don't have him to coach me anymore, but he will definitely do great things with other athletes looking to improve their game.
I have known Brien for over 30 years. During the length of our friendship, Brien has not only been a friend, he has also worked with my wife and I in the basketball camp we run each year for under-privileged children in Phoenix. In that setting, Brien has worked as a camp counselor, basketball coach, assisted with the acquisition of items provided by sponsors, helped prepare give-away items for the campers, and assisted with whatever needed to be done for the camp. Brien is trustworthy, hard working, reliable, and has great work ethic. He is currently employed as a basketball skills trainer with Precision Hoops in Peoria, Arizona. He primarily works with young men and women, ages 10 through 19. He also coaches Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) basketball for the Arizona Rebels, also of Peoria, Arizona. Additionally, Brien coaches young men’s basketball games for special AAU showcase and combine events. He has been NCAA trained and renews his certification each year. Brien has personal experience with basketball, as he played varsity basketball for four years at Northeastern High School in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. He continued basketball for two years in college where he played for Chowan University in Murfreesboro, North Carolina. He has an excellent understanding for the game and exhibits the patience to teach basketball skills and nuances to young men and women. He not only imparts his knowledge of the game to the players, but also teaches them the importance of practicing good sportsmanship.
