More About Coach Billy

Individuals:
I have been a private pitching coach for nine years. Beginning in New Jersey, I conducted private lessons to up and coming middle school pitchers. Throughout college, I maintained my relationship with the high school pitchers in New Jersey, mentoring them along the way.

I focus on pitching. I've studied the mechanics of pitchers, and can pinpoint many different aspects of a wind-up and release that if corrected will increase effectiveness. I also have the knowledge of how to throw, and teach, seven separate pitches. My goals are to decrease risk factors for injuries, while improving effectiveness and maximizing velocity.

Currently, I am the Varsity Pitching Coach for St. Andrew's Episcopal School (HS), and I coach a 14u travel team for Dig In Baseball.

In the past six years, I have also coached the JCCGW Junior Maccabi Baseball Team (3 years) for children 10-12 years old. Since the 2015, I have coached a 10U travel team, a 12U select team, and my current 14u group since the 11u travel level.

I have been playing competitive baseball for over twenty years. I was a starting pitcher throughout high school, at the varsity level for two years. I transitioned to a Division II University, and was the top pitcher on their club baseball team. When I was 20 years old, I played semi-professional baseball in Northern New Jersey, until I obtained a shoulder injury. After rehabilitation, I was able to join a wood-bat baseball league in the Washington DC area.

I was a three sport athlete in high school, until deciding to focus on baseball year-round. I led my team in wins each year of my high school career, as well as while playing ball in college. Over the summers, I played in a semi-professional baseball league in northern New Jersey, leading my team in innings pitched, strikeouts, ERA, and wins.

Currently, I play in the Federal Baseball League in Virginia. I am a starting pitcher for a team that reached the league championship in 2014 & 2018, semi-finals in 2015, and won the title in 2016 & 2017.

The session plan depends on the experience of the player, as well as the goals the client has for the session. A basic session will consist of going over different mechanical movements, how to throw certain pitches (age appropriate), and general knowledge about pitching.

In my opinion, the most important aspect of being a pitcher is knowing how to pitch. I will pass the knowledge I've obtained over 20 years, with the goal of teaching the thought process behind pitching, and building pitches after that.

I personally own Driveline Baseball pitching training equipment, as well as a Pocket Radar gun for advanced session opportunities.

Great pitching coach

Coach Billy is a really motivational and enthusiastic trainer. He helped me learn the basics of defense really quickly. Hes a really fun coach and has a lot of positive feedback to give.

My son had a great first session with Coach Billy. He deconstructed the standard pitch into cool exercises and helped develop a curve ball in the same lesson. We plan on doing additional sessions.

Billy was an outstanding coach for our group of 10-year-olds. He knows how to communicate and motivate kids that that level; he broke down pitching mechanics in drills that were easy to understand, and the kids enjoyed seeing immediate improvement in their performance. All around it was a great success!

Yesterday Carl, my 13 year old son who plays for BCC select had his first lesson with Billy. Carl is a lefty and he wanted to make sure he was throwing correctly. Billy taught him the correct techniques that he will start practicing. He also helped him on batting. Carl can't wait until his lesson next week. Thank you!

Coach Billy was great. He took the time needed to really teach my son the finer points of pitching. He learned a great deal in his first session and we have decided to rebook several more. Billy has great communication and a fantastic attitude.

My 12 year old son (just starting 7th grade) just had his first session with Coach Billy. It was a great session, In setting up the session Billy asked what my goals were for my son for the lesson. I explained that my son is a pitcher that wanted to improve his mechanics so he could safely increase his velocity without sacrificing his control. Billy put my son through a session that was clearly designed to meet that goal, beginning with an overview of proper pitching mechanics and several drills to practice those mechanics, culminating in pitching from the mound. My son noticed an immediate improvement in his mechanics and was throwing harder by the end of the session. Billy had a clear well thought out plan for what he wanted to teach my son, and the hour flew by as they progressed from one drill to the next. My son related very well to Billy and Billy was able to communicate his points very clearly and in a positive encouraging manner. Further, Billy sent us a written summary of what they worked on and feedback as to how my son did during his session - very helpful input. We would definitely recommend Billy to others. And, we look forward to scheduling more sessions with Billy.

My 12 year old just had his first session with coach Billy and both he and I was very impressed. Coach Billy comes very well prepared, and has very effective drills for young pitchers; he also asked me directly before he scheduled a session about what we were hoping to accomplish - i.e. higher velocity, new pitches, etc. this allowed the session to be focused at the outset. He is excellent with younger players and my son was immediately comfortable with him. It was my son's first real professional pitching lesson and he's looking forward to working with coach Billy this fall - we will be scheduling a series of sessions with him. I highly and enthusiastically recommend Coach Billy for any baseball instructional needs you or your child seek. Playing baseball at a high level, coaching and teaching are not necessarily common and joined traits. Billy has been blessed with all three.
