More About Coach Ashley

Hi

My name is Ashley and I am a Personal Trainer, and Athlete and Fitness Junkie.

I love working out, playing basketball, and learning different ways to stay active and in shape.

I specialize in basketball and have a background in conditioning, strength, and agility.

I love working with people. I have worked with young/old, new comers, and people who want to learn new things in the gym.

My goal is to help people learn about the gym and to feel comfortable working out. Everyone starts somewhere!!!

No matter the person or body type, I cater fitness programs based on the person I'm working with. I take everything into consideration: health, injuries, likes/dislikes, your goals and my goals for that person.

If I can get someone to WANT to come to the gym on their own and to WANT to learn more, then I've done my job.

I have been training youth basketball for 5 years.
I had volunteer at an organization called AAYC (Asian American Youth Center) for 3 years where I worked with kids every Saturday from 9am - 12pm from ages 5 - 15. There I assisted kids in low income families in teaching them the fundamentals of basketball. The last 2 years I've been working with clients in 1 on 1 sessions where I work specifically to what the client needs and wants to get better in. Those clients range from ages 13 - 24.

I also work at a YMCA where I work as a personal trainer with clients in teaching them health and fitness with programs and weekly workout sessions.

I have my certification as a Personal Trainer from NASM and am pursuing a certification in Injury Prevention from NASM.

I am currently training and competing in domestic and international basketball showcases and tournaments. I will be heading on a Portugal Tour in September for ten days where we will be competing against teams in the division.

I have also travelled to Bonn, Germany, Las Vegas, Philadelphia, Chicago, Florida, Minnesota, and New York City for various tournaments and showcases. I attend the annual Chinese Nationals from NACBA that is held every Memorial Weekend and have played on NYC Sabres and Philadelphia Suns. I was one of the top point guards in the women's division and have won the MVP at the Chinese Nationals in 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2017.

I had also played on CUNY John Jay College for one semester before an injury occurred.

A typical session includes: small talk about what my session will entail (specific movements, conditioning, etc), warm up routine, drills consisting on specific movements for that day (types of shots, ball handling, play movement, shooting drills, layup drills, passing drills, game playing) and a cool down with a talk about what they did well/didn't do well and what can be done to feel better.

An example of a workout:

1. Warmup: foam roll, mobility (leg swings / arm swings), flexibility (calf stretch, glute stretch, hamstring stretch, Achilles stretch, back stretch, arm stretch)

2. Ball handling: stationary with 1 or 2 balls, if there is only 1 ball, start on right side then switch or vice versa (medium, low, high); moving with 1 or 2 balls, if there is only 1 ball, start on right side then switch or vice versa (cross overs, in between legs, behind the back, in and out, hop skip -- the moves are modified based on how experienced the client is)

3. Shooting: layups (right and left), set shots (short distance, midrange, 3s), shooting in the movement

4. Cool down: foam roll, mobility (leg swings / arm swings), flexibility (calf stretch, glute stretch, hamstring stretch, Achilles stretch, back stretch, arm stretch)

Client Reviews

Great coach! Charismatic and empowering!

Ashley did a great job. As a beginner, it helped me learn some of the key fundamental technics pertaining footwork, shooting and dribbling.

Ashley was a great coach. Friendly, a good communicator and understood what I needed. I would highly recommend!

E had a blast and really worked the fundamentals! Ashley was great to work with! Thank you Ashley!

Coach Ashley was the perfect match for my daughter. There isn't really a lot of female coaches in the city, so having Coach Ashley as a coach for my daughter really makes a difference. She was extremely comfortable during their workout session and was able to perform all of the drills. My daughter is very excited to be working with Coach Ashley and cannot wait for her next session!! We will definitely be working with Coach Ashley during the school year.
I've worked with Ashley on and off for about a year. I knew her from my old coach whom she used to help coach for. Her workouts are always intense and always pushes me to the limit. I always end with learning something new. When you go to Ashley's workouts, you need to be ready to put in the work. She works on things specific to the person she is training or things you want to work out. She makes the workouts fun and usually each session goes by fairly quickly. I've learned a lot within the year I've been training with Ashley.
My son has ADHD and has been working with Coach Ashley for a few months now. We meet once a week on Saturdays for our 1 on 1 sessions. Coach Ashley is an excellent basketball coach who is very professional and caring during her sessions. She will adapt to how my son is feeling and will make each session fun and different. She teaches my son the proper techniques in dribbling, shooting, and passing. She changes the drills into games, which makes it extremely fun for my son who eventually opened up to Coach Ashley. She encourages him to do his best. I am grateful she is very patient and understanding with my son. I am and will continue to have her coach my son once a week.
Hi! My son has been working with Coach Ashley from June 2019 up until now. He has had major improvements in his ball handling and shooting. His confidence has skyrocketed since working with Coach Ashley, which I can see on and off the court. He loves to play basketball with his friends, but he feels that he can play more competitively now. Since the school year has started, he is eager to tryout for his school team, and believes he can make the team this year. I am incredibly proud of the work they have done during the summer, and the work they will continue to do during the school year. I would highly recommend Coach Ashley to any parent.
Working with Ashley the past three years has improved my basketball skills from being a street baller to an organized basketball player. I can handle the basketball better while keeping my head up, read the floor better, read the way the defensive player is guarding me and read where my teammates will be. Off the court, Ashley has helped me lose 80 pounds since I have been working with her. She is extremely versatile on and off the basketball court and can work in different types of situations. I would definitely recommend Ashley whether you are a beginner at working out or a well developed athlete. If you want to improve your basketball game or need work in the gym, she is the person to go to.
